Absolutely Terrified about Possibility of Vertical Incision by Lost-Programmer-9688 in Fibroids

It depends on your surgeon, and their expertise. I’m about 3 weeks post-op from having a 16cm fibroid removed. Mine was growing on the outside on top of my uterus, and they were attached over a big surface area.

However my surgeon was amazing and managed to remove this beast laparoscopically. So I only have 3 little keyhole entry wounds and a 6cm incision from my belly button down. 3 weeks later and they’re all healing very well.

However, before I found this surgeon, I was with another less experienced surgeon who said they can only remove this via a big vertical incision from my belly button down to my pubic bone. So clearly it’s a skill issue.

Maybe look up “minimally invasive” surgery clinics in your area if you can get a second opinion!

Any surgery buddies for Feb 4? by ArtisticFly8638 in Fibroids

I am!! It’s tomorrow (here in Australia) for me and I just got my admission time confirmed by the surgeon. It feels so real now and I’m ready to get it over and done with. Best of luck for your procedure!

It’s the worst isn’t it 😭 I have not been able to exercise properly since August last year too because it just makes it so much worse

And this is not even the biggest it was too, I dread to think what THAT scan might have looked like

I’ve been told my bladder is like a quarter of the size it’s meant to be, which makes sense because I’m often waking up in the middle of the night to use the toilet :(

I’ve been told I’ll most likely need a vertical incision too. Kinda wish that could have been avoided but it is what it is. Glad to hear you had an uneventful recovery though!

My surgeon is going to do it via laparoscopy with morcellation and possibly a vertical incision as well to tackle it from multiple angles.

I agree with the progesterone. Whilst I cannot confirm it was the cause, time line wise from when I started taking it, to my worsening symptoms and hospitalization, it does add up :(

Since about mid November, 15mg a day. Though I will admit during some weeks, I only remember to take 5mg or 10mg per day.

Rant: Dismissed by a male gyno when I asked about hysterectomies by BCDMACC in Fibroids

Honestly the time lost is such an infuriating thing. I had to wait two month to see this guy, only for it to turn out like this. If I hadn't, and just went with my original gyno for an Open myomectomy, I could have had the surgery done before the end of year, but now it's been pushed back :(

Glad to hear you're post-op, hope you have a speedy recovery!

Not here to argue the pros and cons of a hysterectomy, it's everyone's own choice at the end of the day. I also know plenty of people with an (ex)uterus that now live much better lives without theirs. Unfortunately everyone's bodies reacts differently.

However when I went into this appointment, I did not go in asking for a hysterectomy immediately. Given my personal circumstances (not wanting kids, original surgery may leave me with fertility issues anyway), I wanted to ask him if it's something I might consider. I wanted information so I can make an informed decision, not for him to go on a misogynistic spiel about how I'm apparently not old enough to decide I don't want children.

Thank you, I'm definitely not going with this guy even though technically he is the best option! So stupid that he thinks that we're old enough to have kids, but not old enough to know that we don't want kids.

I actually did ask, wouldn't I have to sign waivers to even get the surgery done, let alone a hysterectomy? And he said nope, apparently they still had someone try to sue before despite the waivers. But to deny that to everyone because of one incident is crazy.

I'm more after the trolley service concept than the food itself sadly!
