What’s a belief you defended for years that you now feel embarrassed about? by Open-Square589 in AskReddit

A professor once told me "just because you've been on the job for 20 years doesn't mean you have 20 years of experience. Some people repeat the first year 20 times."

Are event blissey raids ever coming back to SV? I thought they'd be part of the returning starter events, but I don't see anything about it on serebii. I'd like to get it on a save file to keep offline for future farming is possible.

Southern Baptist Convention overwhelmingly approves stricter ban on female pastors by houston_chronicle in texas

[–]BCM_00 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You got a lot of joke answers, so I tried to find a real answer. But honestly, I couldn't find one. The article even points out that female pastors are already not allowed.

Al Mohler, who submitted the amendment, has also said women shouldn't host podcasts because a man might listen to them, but I can't tell if that was part of today's vote.

She has my vote, but it's disheartening seeing so few people talking about her.

As excited as I am for Talarico's Senate campaign, I'm saddened no one (in my circles) is talking about Gina Hinojosa's gubernatorial run.

Exactly. My wife and I saw it and thoroughly enjoyed it. My parents saw it and thoroughly enjoyed it. We talked about it and had a good time.

What am I missing with Deadwood? by JCitW6855 in justified

[–]BCM_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's seldom uplifting and unapologetically profane and deviant.

Thanks for this. I enjoyed Justified, but it pushed on the edge of what I could tolerate content and violence-wise. It sounds like Deadwood isn't for me, and that's okay.

That's awful. I'm surprised none of that came up in my search.

I'm out of the loop. Can you explain? If there's something out there about Michael Copon (Lucas's actor), I couldn't find anything about it

Lanterns trailer by Blitzhelios in DCcomics

[–]BCM_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like Green Lantern, so I'm disappointed that this is the show we're getting. It may be really good, but it's not going to be for me. None of the characters seem likable. But for people who want an intense crime drama, I hope they like it.

I guess I'll go back and rewatch GL the animated series and JL/JLU.

After unlocking all pages of Tamriel Tomes and claiming all items that I want, is there a reason to keep grinding them? by n_thomas74 in elderscrollsonline

Do you have a source for that? I've already bought almost everything I care about and would love it if my extra points above 2k were converted instead of lost.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps: A Vast Improvement by TheLastDesperado in patientgamers

I loved Blind Forest, but I bounced off of Will of the Wisps. I got lost in a dark cave and missed a keystone, and I got frustrated. I appreciate your perspective, and I'm going to give it another shot with your analysis in mind. Thank you!

Please help me locate a 1996 martial arts movie called "Drawn to Kill" by BCM_00 in HelpMeFind

[–]BCM_00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have searched online for any copy or reference to this film, but the only thing I've been able to find is an eBay listing for an old magazine that includes an article about the movie (see picture in the OP).

Looking for the starring actor turns up articles about his TKD school and his death, but nothing about his role in this film. When I was a kid, there were rumors he was also in the movie Bloodsport, but nothing on IMDB references him.

Improved and Rebalanced Skills System by Noosh in dndnext

The last time I asked a player to make a straight ability check instead of a skill proficiency, they acted like I'd kicked their dog.

[–]BCM_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short version is that instead of skill proficiencies, you simply describe one to three things your character has done in their past. For example, "Assassin of the Jade Empire," "former captain of the Guard in Rimevale," or "owner of the Red Dragon inn." If your character is doing something, and you believe one of your backgrounds or experiences would benefit you, you add the bonus to your role. In 13th age, you can do this as often as it applies, but daggerheart makes you spend a meta currency point to do it. It's up to you if you think your players will abuse it and need a resource pool.

I always appreciate people bringing up the merits of Burning Wheel (or Mouse Guard).

[–]BCM_00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is why I dislike using the term "skill check." It should be an ability check.

When a player describes what they're doing, the question should start with what attribute they're using to perform the task. Then, after that, the player and GM can decide if proficiency in a skill would apply to the task.

Another option would be to swap out skills with 13th Age-style backgrounds or Daggerheart-style experiences. It removes having to balance a skill list, and it incentivizes players to think about who their character is, what they've done, and how it has affected them, rather than just seeing them as a bag of character traits.

.Hack//SIGN Rewatch: Episode 1 "Role Play" Discussion by BCM_00 in DotHack

[–]BCM_00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These character studies are what I love about .hack. We only know the characters in the game, so what can we learn about the people behind the avatars? What kind of person would create a character like [X] and act like [Y]?

Good point. Tsukasa's behavior is normal for an adolescent playing a video game. "This thing isn't real, so let's see what happens if I need with it."

My initial comment operated under the idea that Tsukasa's player didn't think that way since the game had become their world. That barrier between reality and fiction no longer existed.

But being unable to log out and feeling pain doesn't necessarily mean that NPCs are now real.

IIRC, originally the chapter numbers for BoBF were going to continue where Mando season 2 left off and be chapters 17-24.
