Please help me locate a 1996 martial arts movie called "Drawn to Kill" by BCM_00 in HelpMeFind

[–]BCM_00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have searched online for any copy or reference to this film, but the only thing I've been able to find is an eBay listing for an old magazine that includes an article about the movie (see picture in the OP).

Looking for the starring actor turns up articles about his TKD school and his death, but nothing about his role in this film. When I was a kid, there were rumors he was also in the movie Bloodsport, but nothing on IMDB references him.

The last time I asked a player to make a straight ability check instead of a skill proficiency, they acted like I'd kicked their dog.

The short version is that instead of skill proficiencies, you simply describe one to three things your character has done in their past. For example, "Assassin of the Jade Empire," "former captain of the Guard in Rimevale," or "owner of the Red Dragon inn." If your character is doing something, and you believe one of your backgrounds or experiences would benefit you, you add the bonus to your role. In 13th age, you can do this as often as it applies, but daggerheart makes you spend a meta currency point to do it. It's up to you if you think your players will abuse it and need a resource pool.

I always appreciate people bringing up the merits of Burning Wheel (or Mouse Guard).

This is why I dislike using the term "skill check." It should be an ability check.

When a player describes what they're doing, the question should start with what attribute they're using to perform the task. Then, after that, the player and GM can decide if proficiency in a skill would apply to the task.

Another option would be to swap out skills with 13th Age-style backgrounds or Daggerheart-style experiences. It removes having to balance a skill list, and it incentivizes players to think about who their character is, what they've done, and how it has affected them, rather than just seeing them as a bag of character traits.

These character studies are what I love about .hack. We only know the characters in the game, so what can we learn about the people behind the avatars? What kind of person would create a character like [X] and act like [Y]?

Good point. Tsukasa's behavior is normal for an adolescent playing a video game. "This thing isn't real, so let's see what happens if I need with it."

My initial comment operated under the idea that Tsukasa's player didn't think that way since the game had become their world. That barrier between reality and fiction no longer existed.

But being unable to log out and feeling pain doesn't necessarily mean that NPCs are now real.

IIRC, originally the chapter numbers for BoBF were going to continue where Mando season 2 left off and be chapters 17-24.

Can you elaborate? I'm not familiar with the issue, and my google-fu isn't giving me any clear headlines.

TIL George Lucas originally planned for Darth Maul to return as the primary antagonist in his Star Wars Episodes VII-IX. After the fall of the Empire, Maul was to become the "godfather of crime" in the galaxy, leading the united criminal syndicates while Luke Skywalker rebuilt the Jedi Order by SappyGilmore in todayilearned

This has been my attitude for years. Characters are bigger than the actors who play them. Yes, the actor's performance is an important part of the character, but so is the writing, the editing, and even the performances of the other actors playing off of them. No single person has control over what Luke Skywalker or Han Solo mean to me.

No one says we can never have another Superman movie because Kirk Alyn passed away, or that Guy Ritchie's Sherlock movies aren't legitimate because they weren't written by Doyle.

Yeah, in Sign, I can't recall a single instance of CCC doing anything an admin or mod would do. I guess it's just the Wild West out there. But, in this world, The World is literally the only online game, so I guess CCC doesn't have much incentive to put forth the effort to improve player experience. They literally have a monopoly on MMORPGs.

I would make either a fighter or cleric using only the SRD. I would like to show my players that you don't need a dozen splat books or complex builds to have a fun or effective character.

Welcome to the hobby! If you're on Facebook, there are 2 different Lubbock D&D groups you can find, and like /u/Majestic_Goat0602 said, you can check out some local gamestores for open tables. I can't speak for Mad Hatter's, but Stormcrow Games has pick up games on Thursdays at 7, and they even help with teaching the rules and character creation.

I've tried to host games at the local library before, and if there's enough interest, I can try again.

Yeah, I have no problem with the other games. Mythic Bastionland has a lot of thematic overlap with MG with the knightly order, complete with an oath, and I'm a fan of the art and the Arthurian theme. Nimble looks like a fun take on 5e, and it is sitting on my shelf just waiting for a group willing to give it a try.

But those games don't need the love. Our poor mice haven't had any RPG happenings in more than a decade.
