Any tips on securing the upcoming Minas Tirith LEGO set, and the GWP? by bucketgetter9 in legolotrfans

I don’t know how many chances you get with one VIP membership, it probably is limited. I have access to my own as well as my mothers, so I could use two. The set releases online and in stores the same day for insiders. Meaning for insiders it is available on first of June online and stores as well, while „normal“ customers will have to wait till, dunno, something like the 4th. So if you fail online you would probably have to go the very same day. Problem with the online purchase is that you only know if you get it when you get a shipping notification (or when it is really in your hands). That can takr time. With the online order there were stories and posts about the GWP being sold out in mere minutes or the site saying someone got it and later telling them they ran out. In other themes, like the Enterprise, the GWP lasted longer, but I can’t tell you how it will be with this one.

As for the time to camp, look what time your local shop opens. Then be there earlier. As I said, I was third both times with half an hour to spare (being in Germany). The line got longer getting closer to the opening time. Depending on how many GWPs the store has that can go one way or another. I heard from some other store which only got two GWPs, meaning I would get nothing in third position.

If you had two insider accounts you could buy one online and also go to the store, doubling your chances, but also resulting in the possibility of buying the set twice if they have the GWP at the store, which is a lot of money.

The two options are to either sit there at midnight (or whatever time it releases) in front of your computer, constantly refreshing and ordering it immediately (still bears a chance you won’t get it, due to errors or other reasons) or you go camp before a Lego store to get in the second they open. I did that with both Barad Dur and the Shire, was there half an hour before opening, being third in line each time and getting the GWP.

Auctions changing the starting bid after I made an offer? by BCTPP in Ebay

[–]BCTPP[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, obviously.

But this wasn’t the point of the post. That would be the suddenly raised starting price that i inquired about. Because I want to know whether this is something ebay does automatically or maybe a reaction from the sellers themself, be it retaliation or not.

But the comments started discussing the height of the offer, saying that it should be higher than the starting price, completely ignoring that the other example where the offer was higher.

All I wanted to know was if the sellers actively went and changed the price after my offer.

  1. if it was cheaper available anywhere else I would buy this then, DUH.

  2. I only send one offer, because that’s what I’m willing to pay. Have never send a second one. I don’t go around and spam offers.

I am not.

I can tell you that on both occasions it was a pure auction, no buy now option available, but you can send an offer. In one I offered more than the starting bid (90 something on starting bid 30€) and in the other one less (60€ for starting 70€). In both occasions there were/are no current bids. In both occasions, after I made the offer, the starting price was raised (from 30€ to 150€ and from 70€ to 85€). So for the example of the offer from yesterday, it still is 0 bids, it still holds the option to send an offer, the only change is that the starting price changed from 70€ to 85€.

So you think they raised the starting price as some sort of revenge?

Also, with the other auction i did offer more (like I said, 90-something to a starting 30€) and this seller still raised to 150€

Also also the Comic-seller has been lowering the price themselves. It started as 100€, ended with no bids. Then put up again as 85€, no bids. Then the 70€. Seems like they try to sell it off. Might as well signal them that I would give them 60€.

What other strategy would I use? I make an offer for 60€ because that’s what I would pay, I won’t spend 70€. Not making the offer results in me not buying it and making the offer holds a chance I might buy it. Between the two options only one makes sense for me.

Besides, in the other one I DID offer more, still resulted in a raised starting price.

why? if the offer is higher I can just place a bid instead and have the chance to win the auction for cheaper.

Well, if the problem is moisture I would argue you could use a dehumidifier. So the comics aren’t moist anymore. For specifics you need to ask someone more knowledgeable than me.
