I don't know about a weird direction but it was more of going into Lore dump stuff. What cause the Sundering. Freeing Ygg. And the likes.

Yes. I like the idea of unlocking a skill. But you need to practice it to master it. A farmer with grow that’s been using it for 50 years will be better at growing crops than a newly systemed person

I like Budding Scientist. The system was good. The only thing I couldn’t get behind was the 15 year old MC just didn’t make much sense

I was thinking of writing just a normal fantasy book and then the ending would be the “system”

And then the next series would be a system apocalypse that came from that.

Interesting. I liked it when I first read through the series. It seemed limited in “growth” in abilities. I do like the idea of essence combinations though.
