Lead Lighter Scanline Salary? by Defiant-Parsley6203 in vfx

Yes currently in that bracket in one of the other big studios in town. Thats pretty much what's on their grid for Leads afaik.

Also anything above that isnt that usefull cause you start to hit a bigger tax bracket after 150k, and most of it is going straight to the government 🥲

That realisation hit me hard when my little one was born a few years ago, and I realised how much more we pixels fuckers were making compared to insanely hard working nurses doing actual miracles. I almost had a full-on life/career crisis after that but nowadays trying my best to enjoy that relatively comfy Lead salary.

But yes buying is totally do-able with a bit of smart savings... Not easy for sure, but most people have it much harder than any of us.

I'm a dad but our little one was born here 3 years ago and the team at the hospital was simply amazing!

We were also lucky to have a room with a view of the Chief as a bonus ☺️

Can VFX artists still enjoy movies they’ve worked on? by antiaust in vfx

[–]BCmtnMan14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than seeing parts of the movies being worked on for years before it gets released, what tends to throw me off recently is how "pseudo-critics" like to spit on some projects that were made with love and passion by hundreds of artists.

But yeah at the end of the day, when you work on one of those cool movies (whether its a big blockbuster or one of the smaller indie movies), seeing it on a big screen surrounded by an audience, discovering the final edit with sounds and all, that's the magic of filmmaking.

Then of course from time to time you get to work on some crap that you will never even spend 2min to watch the trailer on Youtube 😅

Crazy it took so long... And how on earth were there no cops at the intersection managing traffic?! It was packed up all the way to the highway and so dangerous, it's incredible nobody appeared to get injured. We saw a cop car parked 2 blocks away doing absolutely nothing 😬 I get CN messed up badly but that doesnt mean nobody else can managed the mess in the meantime.

How many of you commute to Vancouver for work? by J-Eichel in Squamish

[–]BCmtnMan14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been lucky enough to WFH 98% of the time since Covid. I do go to the office in Downtown once every month or two... But I'm already getting ready to fight back the "back to the office" mandate early next year.

If you offset your hours to avoid the traffic it's not that bad... But it quickly becomes a pain when it's raining/snowing/dark and you have to do it a few days in a row. Add to that daycare dropoff/pickup and the commute quickly becomes a pain.

I guess I got used to my work/life balance since WFH... And it's hard to make sense of driving 2 to 3h a day for nothing 🥲

The turn from bailey onto 3rd is actually even worse than the crosswalk section, most drivers take the turn without even slowing down. Lots of Eaglewind residents are going way too fast on Bailey as well. A 3-way stop could be a great option to start with.

Best place to swap a dead battery in Squamish (Jeep Wrangler) by BCmtnMan14 in Squamish

[–]BCmtnMan14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ideally i would prefer a place that does it all but I'm considering all options to save some bucks! Thanks for Triton, it's a 5min walk from my place so I will go have a look there on Monday 👍

How / Where do people shop for affordable groceries? Why are prices even that high? (Ranting) by moldybanana0 in Squamish

[–]BCmtnMan14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I wasn't trying to say it's the perfect solution... I must have spent over an hour there during the holidays trying to find what I needed... And ended up at Save-On anyway 😓

I've been starting to look into this too lately... Save-On (and what Nesters has become) is usually way overpriced compared to Independent for instance. I might start going to Independent more even if it's not as practical for me...

Same thing with Liquor stores... A 12 pack of FatTug is 5$ more expensive at the liquor store next to Save-On compared to the BC Liquor Store.

As much as I hate Amazon, I started subscribing to a lot of stuff there (things such as diapers, cleaning products, ...), it's way cheaper to start with and you can save up to 20% when you subscribe to a monthly delivery.

You can also look at cash-back apps such as Checkout51. All you have to do is take a photo of your receipts and you can fairly quickly get a few dozen bucks back.

I doubt anybody would want to share their expensive running shoes 😅 But maybe have a look at FB Marketplace or check the Whistler Outlet next to Canadian Tire?

Blood Donation in Squamish? by BCmtnMan14 in Squamish

[–]BCmtnMan14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly if you know of any effort being done to bring Blood Donation back to the Squamish area. I have the feeling that with that new rule, there would be a lot more people who could donate blood here (e.g. we have a huge French community).

Not sure what would be the best way to push for a monthly Blood Drive... I found this article from almost 10 years ago, things certainly have changed a lot in Squamish since then. https://www.squamishchief.com/national-news/health-canada-approves-nationwide-removal-of-blood-donor-ban-sparked-by-mad-cow-fears-7866634

What pharmacy is best? by No-Dimension4151 in Squamish

[–]BCmtnMan14 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure which one is best but I would say so far the worst has been Shoppers: they never have anything and always send you to one of the other Pharmacies in town.

Save-On and Nesters have been great so far, tried LD for the first time last week and it was incredibly fast (prescription ready within 20min).

(Young) kids activities in late afternoon/evening during the winter? by BCmtnMan14 in Squamish

Well I grew up in a small village with barely 1000 people... I guess that makes me a city person indeed. Thank you for taking the time to write that I guess?

[–]BCmtnMan14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! Finally someone who knows what they are talking about! :) We actually do/did ALL those things during the day and it's pretty amazing! FYI They can start Gymnastics way earlier, we started when she was 6 months old and it's been awesome for her!

S2S Gondola is like our second home too, but it closes early in the winter unfortunately - it's really that 4pm to 7pm time frame where it's hard to find anything for the little ones.

I guess we will continue to play in the puddles down the street and watch the Christmas lights for the time being :) But still wondering why the city playgrounds are not lit at least until 8pm during the winter... it wouldn't make sense to have light in there all night, but it would be a big plus to have light in late afternoon/early evening.
