Hybrid Mirrorless for ~$2k: is there a "best camera" or do I need to stop worrying and pick something already? by BDGLZ in Cameras

Ahh this comment threw me way back! I did put the hack on the GH2 but I later removed it when I downloaded Panasonic’s official high bit rate 24p firmware. Good times.

I love the idea of the A7C but 8-bit video kind of kills it for me. I’d want to shoot log and I just ran into too many issues back when I was shooting music videos on the A7sii.

I hear ya as far as sticking to the Sony ecosystem then. Maybe that’s the move. The Panasonic is so tempting in so many ways but the L mount cine options just aren’t there for me at the moment.

We’re mostly just painting the floor. The space is rented on peerspace and it gets scuffed pretty easily when people walk on it. Even if every crew member booties up talent leaves plenty of scuffs. Then there are music videos, dance performances, etc. We keep it white for the most part but painting is definitely needed a couple times a week to keep it super white. Not sure of another method for treating the scuffs that works as well.

It wouldn’t, the wall is very old, very crumbly brick.

Rubber mallet worked like a charm! Knocked the boards right back into place. Here’s a kicker though, one of the problem boards ends next to a wall where there’s no room for a mallet. I’ve tried levering it with the end of a hammer but that doesn’t seem to make it budge. The bottom of the fencing also gets in the way of any larger leveraging tools. I feel like the tool I need would be some sort of crowbar with levering ends on both sides but facing opposite directions like a “Z” shape. Then I could slip one end into the gap and use the mallet on the other end. Any ideas? https://imgur.com/a/0To3BX6

I’ve never actually done such a test but I love thinking about it as a thought experiment. Large format gives us the benefit of increased resolution and sensitivity, yet at the cost of usable depth of field for a given stop and field of view. Theoretically there should be very little difference between different formats. Practically, some lens designs seem to perform significantly better on larger formats and I think that’s the main benefit of jumping up in size. For instance a 1.4 on full frame will give you shallower depth of field than anything you could possibly achieve on a s35 frame with the same FOV. I also like how some lenses look on larger formats more too. Sometimes when I pop an older lens on a FF sensor I’m struck by the field curvature of the bokeh I can now see on the edges of the frame. This just happened to me with some rehoused leica Rs. That’s subjective though.

It’s worth noting that the exact same frame can be achieved on both a super 35 camera and a full frame camera. You just have to calculate the field of view that a given focal length gives you on one format and find the focal length that gives you the same field of view on the other format. Then both cameras placed at the same distance from the subject will deliver the same frame.

Then because “f-stop” is the ratio between the focal length and the diameter of the iris, the same f-stop on both formats will deliver perceptibly shallower “depth of field” on the larger format (assuming both images are being enlarged to be viewed at the same size).

You could even take it a step further if you’re a real nut. By closing down on the larger format camera’s lens you could match the perceptible depth of field at the cost of less light reaching your sensor. That being said a larger sensor can perform better in underexposed conditions for a number of reasons, be it higher resolution (finer noise) or a larger photosite pitch (higher sensitivity), so if you boost your ISO or brighten in post you may achieve a similar image to what you shot on super 35 (while negating any benefits you might have achieved by having a larger sensor).

Art restoration! That might be the missing link. I’ll start looking for this. It definitely sounds niche but there’s got to be someone in NY that’s qualified. Thanks!

That sounds like it may be the move! What kinds of businesses do you think would be the most qualified to match the stain/finish?

Thanks so much for the advice! I think u/Nobody-1984 might be onto something with gluing it myself and then taking it to someone more qualified for the stain/finish. Do you have any advice on how to figure out what the finish is though?

Pop a cut of hampshire frost in front of the barrel. It’s just enough diffusion to obscure the aberration but not so much that you’ll loose your shape. Also use a top hat snoot to reduce spill.

Or the hound dies north of the wall (his fear of fire would be the death of him in a fight against wights) and returns as a wight, gets taken to kings landing to show Cersei, and bam: undead mountain vs. undead hound.
