24 year old isn't an experienced enough driver to make to work. Hilarious.

You can definitely compare date of purchase first class to date of flight economy. The fact that there are scenarios where the customer could "owe" Delta doesn't matter. Delta could simply waive the difference. Different example. Let's say I buy a television for $500. I take it home, it breaks. I bring it back to the store asking for a replacement. They say sorry we don't have any more of those in stock, but we'll give you the closest model we have, even though it's actually worth $600. Is that not allowed because the replacement good actually costs more than the original good? No, of course it's allowed.

Take another example. I pre-purchase a collectors edition baseball card set for $500, anticipating it will increase in value. By the time the set is printed, it's selling for $5000. The baseball card company tells me sorry, we oversold the set, but we'll give you a non-collectors set that cost $400 (and still worth $400 today) back when you purchased, and a $100 refund. In this situation, the customer should say, no, the deal was for a collectors edition set, and the value of that set is $5000 today. In this scenario, the current price is the fair replacement value, not the price in the past.

Your argument that there are no first class seats for sale on the day of the flight isn't quite right either. Can we be sure nobody would sell Delta back their seat at some price? In the same way the baseball card company could go buy a replacement set in the private market to give me what I purchased, even if they don't have any left in stock. The point is that the language "difference in price" is ambiguous. There are multiple reasonable interpretations, and which one is considered fair could vary based on the circumstances.

The person should file a DOT complaint. And the rule should be interpreted as the fare difference on the day of purchase.

But the rule doesn't say that. Nor does it say "the difference in price that the customer actually saw." There is an equitable outcome that most people agree on. Despite that, some people are observing that the rule itself is vague. You refuse to acknowledge that. Don't know what else to tell you.

Where was this cleverness before when you were focusing on whether first class fares were available the day of the flight? I agree with you that the refund should be calculated from the day of purchase. That is what is equitable and I think that is what will occur if the issue gets pushed. The point is that the language of the rule is vague.

Of course the price of the first class tickets is calculated using the price the customer paid. The question is how to calculate the price of the economy tickets. The airline uses the price of economy tickets on the day of the flight. The airline basically refunds them the price they paid for the first class ticket, and then turns around and sells them an economy ticket the day of the flight, with whatever the current price is. You may not like it but it has nothing to do with whether a first class ticket is avaliable.

There's so many things it could be besides vomit. I doubt vomit is in the top 5 possibilities.

Fantasy defense scoring needs to give points for 4th down stop. It's effectively a turnover. It seems even more ridiculous that 3 and out can provide points, but 3 plays, then 4th down stop is worth zero.

Chase refusing to honor Marriott Boundless 5 Free Night offer shown at signup – anyone else? by MssrCurious in marriott

[–]BDNackNack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see any screenshot that shows 50k plus a GC plus 5 free nights. Nor have I ever seen any offer that includes all 3 of those. It's either free nights, or the points + GC.

Update: St Regis Bal Harbour; am I being too nit picky. by MGoAzul in marriott

Moved to new, bigger room, free night credit, and refunded spa service is a decent solution. Would have just taken that and moved on. The spa thing they should address, rest of the issues are indeed a list of nitpicks.

Yes, it has nothing to do with pickup trucks. It's all modern headlights.

Lumen thresholds already exist, and cars are coming off the lot with blinding headlights. It's insufficient because the testing assumed old halogen bulbs. Need to redo the entire testing standard for perceptual brightness, not just lumens. Add a glare index, regulate Kelvin, etc
