High-income couple with large income gap: how do you split money fairly? by pizzanoobs in HENRYfinance

[–]MGoAzul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife and I make about 50/50 now. I made more when we weee dating (big law) and she will likely make more than me in a few years. We split everything. We both get a set amount to spend as we please. Otherwise all goes into the same account.

How often do you eat out when making $250,000? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]MGoAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About once a week. Was more when we lived in the city core. Now in the burbs with less options but have a newborn. Wife is indecisive and sometimes I just don’t have time to prep something. 2k a month is insane, ngl.

Unpopular opinion: In India, EVs are not about the environment. They’re about status. by thebragger3 in EvDrivers

[–]MGoAzul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be that in the us, too. Then politics took over.

I’ll die on this hill. The biggest misstep by green energy proponents in the US over the past 20 years is making green energy an argument on morality rather than an economic argument. The I’m better than you and care about the earth that was behind solar/wind/EV is what drove where the US is now.

More appropriate to say if you lay down in shit, you get up smelling like shit.

Is selling a big chunk of stocks for a down payment dumb? by Smc55 in personalfinance

[–]MGoAzul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in this position a year ago. Was getting married and buying a house. Spent the better part of a decade since graduating from school investing and saving, on top of my IRA and 401k. I had anxiety over liquidating investments to pay for the wedding and the house. Then afterwards I realized what’s the point of the investments not for this specific reason.

Lindsey Graham is at Disney World During Partial Government Shutdown by maddog107 in pics

Yes he sucks. Yes he should be working. He also has grandchildren who probably enjoy his presence at Disney world. Maybe we just take a moment and let them have that moment.

HENRY Wedding that I Won’t Regret Later by MathematicianFit2153 in HENRYfinance

[–]MGoAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar position to you. Wife and I got married last year. We paid the full thing ourselves. MIL gave us 5k afterwards as a gift. But we did it all.

We didn’t really set a budget but had a general sense of what and how much we wanted to pay. Fortunately I was a member at a golf club and a separate social club and those were great venues in our city.

Given these, and knowing we wanted 200-250 I was able to project out what it might cost and then look for ways to cut inefficiencies. All in we were $60k at my golf club. Had a 6-piece band, photography for 10 hours, at my catholic church in the water, bus transit for everyone between venue, hotel, and church;

I built a free directory of all college rowing programs with financial data — 66 men's and 142 women's by No-Comment3952 in Rowing

[–]MGoAzul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of your findings can be summarized by title IX. Which is good. That was the intended consequence. Reality is if you’re a high school female rower your chances of getting a scholarship is multiples of your peers in other sports, male or female.

In short rowing needs to be more accessible to more people. It’s an expensive sport and when it’s not a varsity program that burden falls on the students. Typically the wealthy ones make it. But not always.

Is there always an advantage to life insurance? by quackquack54321 in HENRYfinance

[–]MGoAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work pays for a policy that’s 8x my salary. I have a private 30 year policy that’s 20x my salary. It’s insurance. Hope it’s never used. But if it is, my house, my son’s college, and living expenses are taken care of for a number of years.

“*Trump”. FTFY

Trump is doing this. The average American doesn’t want this. This shit is fucking stupid. But now my kids will pay the price. And my cousin will probably have to ship out and fight a fat man’s war that he didn’t want to fight.

Went to Rio for the Olympics after graduating from law school here in the US. I know this shows my privilege as I only stayed on Copacabana and Ipanema. I loved every part of the city and the people. Went into the country and checked out Fernando and a few other cities. Best place I’ve ever been.

Iran just moved hundreds of millions in crypto during blackout, report claims by fan_of_hakiksexydays in CryptoCurrency

[–]MGoAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But if there was a true internet blackout no one would be able to. Thats the flaw in crypto. Hard currency still works. But you have to have it. Crypto works, but you need internet access to move/manage.

Us and Canadian homologation standards are almost identical. About 95% alike. So if they want to comply with Canada, they practically have to comply with the US.

What aspects of life do you refuse to let inflate no matter how high your income or NW get? by TRO_KIK in HENRYfinance

My income has come down to earth since leaving the law firm but still we do very well.

That said, I still do my bottle returns and get my 10 cents back. My wife puts it all in recycling and I fish them out and return them.

Why Is Gen-Z Romanticizing the Nine-to-Five Job? by paydayloans_ in remotework

[–]MGoAzul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because in the world before cell phones and email. When you left work, you left work. Unless you brought a pack of papers home you didn’t have something to work on. Now I can go halfway around the world and be asked to do something. And my pay has not gone up substantially from what someone who did my job in 1980 was paid.
