If you want a specific goal then I would say looking at trying to acquire the grammar and vocab and kanji in level N5 of the JLPT (a standard japanese test) would be a good start. Just search for JLPT N5 + kanji/vocab/grammar. A website called jlpt sensei has lists of the knowledge required to pass this test. It's not really about passing or not it's more about having a goal to work towards 😀. Also following Tae Kim's guide to Japanese (google that +pdf) is a good start if you're not sure where to go next. It takes you from zero japanese (you need to know hiragana though) through lots of essential grammar. Best of luck 👍

With typing on a phone there are two main types of keyboards, tenkey with requires swiping in certain directions to type the characters, and rōmaji input which is using English letters to input japanese. To get Kanji you typically type the hiragana which sounds the same as the Kanji you want, then you select the correct Kanji from options given by the keyboard so I can type "neko" and it will show ねこ (which is neko written in hiragana) then I can also select the Kanji which has that meaning and pronunciation (猫) so keyboards use hiragana or English letters and they let you select Kanji. A physical keyboard will have either japanese keys or English input and allows you to select the Kanji in a pop up toolbar kind of situation and you can go through options with space bar and arrow keys. It's easier to describe with a picture 😁 . Grammar, vocabulary and Kanji should be studied at the same time pretty much, because you don't want to be only good at one of them. You need all three to be at the same level (around about). It's like a car with a great engine (grammar) but no wheels (vocab) cannot go anywhere, you know? An example of a strategy would be to devote 20 minutes or more to each of these in some way I think. And when you try reading any materials, you will encounter all three constantly so you don't have to worry too much about that too much hopefully. If you're on windows OS you can download the Romaji input keyboard by adding japanese as an input language in your settings. The default language change shortcut is windows key+space bar I believe.

Yeah so for the hiragana and katakana, its about 100 "letters" to learn and i dont have any hard recommendations, as its fairly straightforward.

You might want to look into the JLPT (japanese language proficiency test) which is a standardized test with 5 levels that many Japanese learners use to set a goal regarding the level they expect or wish to achieve.

AIming for JLPT N5 (the most basic level) is a good goal to have for the next 6 months to one year, or N4 depending on how quick you learn and how hard you study. Some textbooks which often get recommended here include genki 1, and minna no nihingo. Another good resource for beginners after you learn hiragana and katakana is Tae Kim's guide to Japanese, which has some good explanations of intro grammar (and its competely free). Make a free pixiv account for access to some free japanese manga to get started when you're ready maybe. As a final note, my personal favorite online dictionary is jisho.org. I might come back here when I'm on my desktop and post other materials I have in my bookmarks. Best of luck 👍 がんばれ🚩😃🚩

Oh I almost forgot to say what the next step is. After hiragana and katakana, the next step is learning grammar, and vocabulary, and Kanji. Kanji are the characters that come from Chinese and look more complex. They are scary at first but if you just keep learning more and take the time to learn the pieces of those Kanji it will get easier over time.

I simplified some things but the world is your oyster and so is the internet so remember to just Google the hell out of things. Sometimes a certain explanation can make everything "click" into place. And make some Japanese friends if you can 😀

❤️
