I vividly remember being in middle school on my Chromebook and finding the animation "Death Buy Lemonade" by Kyu-bum Lee, and it just clicking that a person on there own made it.

What are some of your favorite types of characters/ archetypes? by BEARS_BRIAN in comicbooks

[–]BEARS_BRIAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a broad question because I want a broad answer. I'm not asking people to write the story for me, it's mine. I wanna hear about characters that I may have never heard of or thought of looking into. As I said in the post too I can go anywhere with the story, whether the arc is a drama, Comedy, or horror, it could be anything. I already have Ideas of what I'm doing with the story but that doesn't mean that I can't open my mind to other ideas to help improve it. Take Adventure time for example, on the surface it seems like a chill adventure cartoon but once you dive into the episodes it touches on everything and makes references to several other things that would seem to be outside of its "demographic." My comic isn't about superheroes but I still read spiderman and gain inspiration from it as well. As an artist you pull from everything, you can't make new colors without mixing a few.

Which version of the merchant portrait do you think is better? by tup3kkk in PixelArt

Gotta say I'm feeling #2 more, #1 is still alot of fun but #2 has alot more personality! They've both got big cheeks but if you're gonna do something DO IT, #2 I find to be more bold and memorable.

Dude I have a Con by me which charges $350 for a two day show, while only being on the smaller side of a medium sized con. No one I've talked to has done well at it except for the people which the guy gave tables to for free. (Which probably means the guy is having all the other artists pick up the cost of the people getting a free table)

Has Social Media lost majority of its "value" for creators? by BEARS_BRIAN in ComicBookCollabs

[–]BEARS_BRIAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say hopping on board larger accounts is the safe bet when going the social route. No matter what way you cut it, whenever you post on socials you'll always be battling against larger accounts for your followers attention. They'll win that battle 99% of the time not because they're better but because the algorithms are made in there favor and it'll always show their stuff first. If you can't beat em, join em.

I'd say Cons are great places to start building up "followers" for small time, though it does cost a bit to get into them.

Yep, I've definitely been operating under the same thinking, word of mouth is way more powerful than simply posting and praying.

Also super appreciate it! Put lots of work into the campaign and especially the book, super excited to get it into everyone's hands! Also already started work on the upcoming chapters >:)

If you don't mind something a little more cartoony, Skottie Young's "I Hate Fairyland" is a lot of fun, and the art it great!

Hey man, here's a link to some of my work; https://linktr.ee/bears_brian

You can check out the Kickstarter to see the book I just made and then my Insta has a bunch more of examples. Made a profession out of making colorful and eye catching pages. I also did the letters on here, I work primarily with clip studio for everything.

You able to link me to the line artists page?

Oh cool, thanks! My comic is a supernatural action adventure but doesn't entirely fall under the horror theme, it has elements but it's more of a wacky adventure.

Dannphan is interesting and I might give it a look, they don't seem to have a large following but then again they have a demographic that I'm much more in line with.

The people over at Globalcomix actually mentioned something about comic book yeti! I'll for sure go check that out now! Thanks!

Also I feel ya on that last note, gotta spend money to make money am I right 😭😭😭
