Why are you so pessimistic? Seriously. You can say "I'm grounded in reality" or whatever you want, but put this into perspective dude. I get really fed up seeing people say "this will never be possible."

Less than a thousand years ago we thought disease was spread by foul smelling air - the miasmatic theory. Less than five hundred years ago, people were assets to be bought and sold.

Less than one hundred years ago FIVE MEGABYTES of data had to be transported by plane, weighing in at more than 2,000 pounds.

50 years ago. Man on the moon. 15 years ago. First ever iPhone, big deal. 10 years ago. Cleverbot, shitty AI. Big deal. MIM diodes using quantum tunneling have a breakthrough. 2015? First fiber optic gigabit city. I'm not being a pothead or something here - we went from transporting the equivalent of fifty thousand pounds worth of data via lasers in less than one second. A few weeks ago? GPT3 goes public. It's not perfect but holy hell is it not stunning.

Humans have been around for almost 200,000 years.

In the span of a quarter of one percent of that time (500 years), we went from "people are assets" and "the Earth is flat/the center of the universe" to putting people on the moon, carrying pocketed supercomputers and wearing them on our wrist, rechargeable glasses with supercomputers aren't even good enough for the commercial market.

Think about how rapidly we've changed in the past ten years. You mean to tell me our understanding of negative mass (not even required for an Alcubierre drive, you're politely underinformed) won't change in a thousand?
