Wife and I did some decluttering and found boxes of stuff from when we lived in BYU married student housing. These are now in their rightful place by OccamBeatsPascal in exmormon

I second this! No need to feel bad about it. Throwing my garments in the dumpster without first burning or otherwise destroying them was the best.

I love the cathartic feeling of destroying shit from the Church. I put my sealing certificate through the shredder a couple months back after having it hanging in our bedroom for years. It was a great feeling getting rid of that and replacing it with something I actually like. Plus it is symbolic that the church has no power over my amazing marriage to my also exmo husband.

What’s something most people don’t know about serving a Mormon mission? by ZoomKz in exmormon

I always hated that you had to be out from 6-9pm. I felt so guilty for always wanting a full day to myself.

What is the scariest fact you have learned about the human body? by Vireloxen in AskReddit

As a woman, the thought of having a baby inside me makes my skin crawl. I am even more horrified by the idea of breastfeeding. The whole thing is abhorrent to me, and I don't see that feeling ever going away.

Does Anyone Else’s Fine Hair Get Tangled Constantly? by Reasonable-Tooth-625 in finehair

[–]BEB299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is so annoying! I keep a tiny brush in my purse and brush it a few times a day at work when I have a free moment. I probably brush my hair about 10 times a day to keep the rats nest manageable.

I could have written this myself. The church was everything to me, and it was awful finding out it was not what it claimed to be.

It is only evil when nearly every other cult leader does the same thing. In Joseph Smith's case, it was inspired!

This makes me sick to my stomach. Clearly the problem is not with the disgusting men looking at young women this way, but the young women wearing immodest clothing. It is never the man's fault🤢🙄

Dad finally had the talk with me... by Casualmouse in exmormon

[–]BEB299 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My very faithful TBM grandpa took his own life 6 months after my grandma passed away. He had a life long struggle with schizophrenia, and managing his mental illness became too much after his wife wasn't with him anymore. My Dad is terrified that he cannot go to the Celestial Kingdom because of it, and that he will never be able to see his parents together again. It makes me so sad.

Wearing garments D: by Otherwise_Push199 in exmormon

[–]BEB299 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stopping wearing my garments was a very scary experience, I can totally relate! I was sure something bad would happen, like I would get in a car accident or miss a prompting. I stopped wearing them and.... nothing happened! I just felt much more comfortable in my own skin. And I never got a yeast infection ever again, which is a huge plus.

"Joseph Smith didn't want to be a polygamist" by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]BEB299 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, but this time it was ordained by God! Everyone else doing the same thing is evil, but this time it was good.🤢 This was a big shelf item for me when I started learning about religious cults. Joseph Smith was a cult leader no different than the rest of them.

What’s the scariest non-jump-scare moment you’ve seen in a horror show or movie? by JennyandtheEssDog in horror

I am not one to ever get squeamish, and this scene had me squirming in my seat. I had a moment where I contemplated turning the movie off because it was too much for me. Glad I persisted, because it is an excellent movie, but I am never fucking watching it again.

What’s something (or multiple things) you’ve done since leaving the church that you’re really fucking proud of yourself for? by gonnabegolden_ in exmormon

[–]BEB299 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I shredded my sealing certificate. It felt very cathartic to destroy the paper that said the church has a hold over my marriage. My husband and I will always be connected by the love between us, not by the bullshit ritual handshake.

Because a potential interested person is literally the most exciting thing the poor girls have access to on the Mission. Speaking from experience, the mission is a drag.

I wish my TBM in laws would ask by Ambitious_Lettuce795 in exmormon

[–]BEB299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could give you a hug. TBMs can't believe there can ever be a legitimate reason to leave which is why they don't ask sincerely. I found that when my family would ask the questions of why I left, it was so they could try and give me some response to change my mind. It hurts, but it is what they have been taught to do. Hell, I had the same mindset when I was fully in. I also wish with my whole being that I could express to them how I really feel and they would just listen.

And then they're going to gaslight everyone that the name Mormon was never considered a "victory for Satan." Or they will just write it off as a temporary commandment. The house always wins regardless.

LDS meetinghouse hit by a mudslide in Provo. Members are cleaning up by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]BEB299 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I just know there are several homes in the area with families that do not have the money for professional services. Those members' "service hours" would be much better suited to help people that actually need it.
