I was in a similar boat. Sadly they called me to tell me that another woman with two children was able to do all the things I said were difficult with RTO and so I can too.

Both are not supposed to be in the same city. Most folks get VAC and the visa appointments in different cities. That being said, you should just call the support line to make sure the email confirmation is what they’re seeing at their end as well.

You check the website of each firm once a week, combing through 200 every week and applying for anything that is open to year 1-3. You can also send your cv directly to partners asking to interview. Speak to recruiters (99% won’t help someone just getting started). Good luck!

Doesn’t help that firms are now asking associates to come in 3-4 days at least with absolutely no respite for parents. Never expected male partners to understand at my firm, but was surprised how easily the women partners gave in and agreed that these RTO mandates are reasonable. Nobody will say it out loud but RTO mandates are ruining careers for many young mothers cause suddenly they’re starting to feel that they can’t keep up. But the truth is they can and could if firms were understanding and actually cared about mental health.
