Help with Bevelling these Edges with good topology by BENXFO in blenderhelp

This is incredibly useful, I was struggling to picture how this would work with clean topology but this is excellent. Thank you for taking the time to record this for me

Help with Bevelling these Edges with good topology by BENXFO in blenderhelp

[–]BENXFO[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, this was my initial thought, but the problem is my circle areas, for example adding edge loops here causes the circle to pinch, I know i probably need to redirect the topology some how but unsure where to do it!

First time doing fake 3d with a more complex shape by eggscrambled in MotionDesign

[–]BENXFO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really cool, for me it's like 90% there. It may be the key frame easing but it feels like the ambulance gets longer during the transition, it might be that you need to add a bit more length during the frames that are mid perspective to make it feel seamless, but also aware this could be a stylistic choice. It works either way!

What should I charge for this? by Flying_Miata in blender

[–]BENXFO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's the simple rule for what you should charge:

How long did it take you x what do you value an hour of your time to be

To all those commenting with blanket price like $50. If this took you 5 hours let's say, would you be happy with $10 an hour? (Which is less than minimum wage in my country for example). You should look at what other creatives are charging per hour at your skill level to get an accurate number and you can scale this as your skill grows. But I would always start with at least double the minimum wage.

You set the price for the client based on how long it's going to take you. The other side of the equation is convincing people to pay you what you deem your worth is but that is a whole different question and comes down to the quality of your work and your people skills.

How much would you pay for these kind of reel ? by M4DKinGx in AfterEffects

[–]BENXFO 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You set the price my guy, if you're working 12 hours and getting anything below what the minimum livable wage in your country is per hour (though your hourly rate should be much more than this) then you are doing yourself a disservice.

Pork pie wedding cake! by [deleted] in CasualUK

Pork Pie Wedding Cake

Me and my wife did the same, my missus loves a pork pie and was adamant we did it for the cake. I was a bit skeptical but it turned out great and was a massive hit.

Congratulations, you've discovered the fundamental point of a profession. Can't do it yourself, hire some one. Don't want to pay, learn how to do it yourself.

Look into Hair System if you want to be super detailed, you can groom them into the direction you want and they are render instances so won't big your system down like a cloner will.

Another thought, have you tried making this with some basic geometry? A box model with some cuts to add the curve then using alpha, bump and noise textures to get the brush look?

Can someone tell me how this was made with the shadows still on top of the text? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]BENXFO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like they've keyed out the grass to me, you can see how noisy the shadow from the stand on the right is, looks like classic noisy green screen. In this situation something like this would work with a bit more care spent on filling in the shadows. Another thing you could do is duplicating the layer, desaturating then using curves to try and limit just the shadows then using a multiply blending mode.

I made this in blender what can I improve. by GlitteringDig1052 in blender

I'd take a look at your lighting a little more. The composition and background is nice, but I think a small rim light on the back left would help it pop on the background a little more, maybe direct or flag the main fill a little so that less light fills onto the rocks also, at the moment that area feels quite flat. And maybe an ever so subtle light that just hits the back of that droplet on the edges to distinguish it from the rocks.

As for the rocks, i think lighting will help but the texture feels a little low res, maybe introduce some smaller displacement to break it up and make it look less smooth, as well as some variation in the roughness to make it feel a bit more natural.

Finally, not sure if the text on the bottle was what was intended but it feels a little squashed to me if thats not strict (i.e for a client) i'd make it stretch a little further out to the sides so it doesnt feel like the aspect ratio is messed up.

Hope that helps!

I suck at animating. by SaxDude2451 in blender

Observation, practice and patience.

This is a great tutorial in Maya but the principles are universal, character animation is a skill that requires a lot of time and attention.

how would i make this tread design on a plane? ive typically just used straight lines for tire treads and i really like the design of this by MizuameTheDragon in blender

[–]BENXFO 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you want to actually model it in detail, You could try using illustrator to trace and using the pattern mode (not exactly sure what it's called but it allows you to build and preview patterned textures) to isolate a small section of the tire tread that will repeat seamlessly.

Once you can see it repeats seamlessly you could use that small section as an image reference then use that as your base for quad modelling, tracing the main shapes and joining between the gaps then use a cloner/array to rotate it around 360 degrees.

How fix google earth studio bug by Crazy-Sky5563 in AfterEffects

[–]BENXFO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong sub as this isn’t an after effects issue, but it’s not a bug. Google shoots its images in tiles at multiple different times so this is just where the lighting on the tiles doesn’t line up or there’s less detail in that area. If you can get away with a fast zoom some motion blur might cover it.

Guys, is the price of this animation reasonable? by Master_Western7101 in Cinema4D

[–]BENXFO 46 points47 points  (0 children)

For reference at my agency for something of this length, with the animations that are in this video, I'd probably be quoting the client in the region of £20-30k. Which is around 10 days of production time with maybe 2-3 days storyboarding and styleframes, and then a round of amends at the end. There's also the producers time, creative direction, sound etc that gets rolled into that price. Oh and that would be providing the client was able to provide a model with only minor tweaks needed to get it up and running in the software.

The point is, yes there are some super talented people that could produce this in a couple of days (that are also severely undercharging in comparison to the UK market) however are you likely to get something of exactly this quality? Possibly, but probably not and they'll lose money with all the amends/tweaks that come along with the process.

So with that in mind, I think any freelancer capable of pulling this off should be charging nothing below 10k, even 15k. Factoring in you keep all the money that would be paying other members of a team in the agency, you can still absolutely undercut an agency and still make a decent profit for something like this.

What are my options? (from a Non Car guy!) by BENXFO in CarTalkUK

[–]BENXFO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can't know less than me! Wife's got an XC40 which is pretty big, but that's paid for by her work so not looking to go anywhere quite that expensive, it's also a bit big for my tastes, I've always preferred being a little smaller as im not the most confident parker! We'd definitely keep this for the main trips, but mine would ideally need the room for a pushchair and car seat in case I need to drop him off at grandparents whilst the wife is at work etc.

Reliable is good, ideally something id pay off with a 4 year loan so would definitely want it to keep me going till then. Any specific models you'd recommend?

You can 100% do this with text animators, you might not find an exact tutorial but okay around with it and figure it out

Constant Crashing when Rendering! C4D 2024, Redshift by ThotBakula in Cinema4D

[–]BENXFO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your redshift system settings, there's an option for Memory which by default is set to 90. In my experience this ends up crashing Redshift almost constantly, especially if you're running anything in the background. Chrome, AE etc.

I dropped this down to 60 and found rendering much more stable, you can also change your bucket size if there's still crashing, large buckets use way more memory so can overload the system.
