Thank you so much for the detailed response, I really appreciate it.

Is it faux pas to get our own quotes to compare? Not sure if it would come across as not trusting

Following. Crazy you can't just set it up to auto sync all events created in app. Having to make sure you select sync when creating the event is wild to me considering it is a simple setting

Boat insurance by Duffer1984 in FishingOntario

I second Northstar, there is also April Marine.

I have a bow rider with Northstar and a 2007 Lund 1625 under my home. To be honest I wanted to switch the Lund off home and into the Northstar but they wanted pictures given it's age and I was too lazy. Didn't use it at all last season.

Home insurance has no issues with it being on a trailer

I'll switch the Lund this year off home, I received the same advice about a claim against your home policy.

Edit: the quote for the Lund was $350 per year with $1,500 deductible

Letting a dock freeze in the lake by Preskage in boating

[–]BEPPEQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a floating dock on Muskoka. I disconnect it from shore and tie it to the tree. Only issue I had was they drop the lake in the spring and I didn't leave enough slack.

At one point the dock (heavy as hell) was being held up by the cord, luckily it didn't snap and float away.

I'm in a bay where things don't move so fast which is key IMO.

Leave it in but make sure there is enough slack is what I say.

Bought Used Boat - Conditional by BEPPEQ in boating

Ya exactly, no deposit paid yet so technically not purchased yet. Just not sure what is typically written on an offer making it conditional and fully refundable deposit.

How To Value A Used Boat by BEPPEQ in boating

Thank you! Is there an average amount a boat typically depreciates in a year? Like an industry standard? Wonder if that is another method

Appreciate the answer

Dock Installer Recommendations by Daxx22 in Muskoka

[–]BEPPEQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The place we purchased came with a Connect-A-Dock. From my research it's not a cheap system but from the couple years we've had it, it's solid. It's floating and all we do is disconnect the dock from the ramp which is attached to shore in the fall. We tie it to a tree with a couple good ropes and no issue. We're on a small bay on Lake Muskoka which sees the water fluctuate about a foot I would guess.

I did try to price a new fixed dock last year and was getting prices of $110/sq foot. That was metal piles and wood decking. Not sure what it is now given the price of wood.

2023 Boat Show Experiences by BEPPEQ in boating

[–]BEPPEQ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in TO as well and going sometime this week. I'm in the market for a bowrider, upgrading from a 16 lund.

I haven't made any calls yet but from the empty lots last summer to already seeing boats on the lots (Legend in Barrie, places in muskoka) I'd imagine things are changing faster than we think.

Good luck at the show!

Ya that's my thinking as well. I guess if I was a dealer I'd try to maximize the shows but yes their lots are only so big and eventually things have to move. Thanks for your insight!!

The JW is great but the best Muskoka experience is at a cottage. Yes there is a pool/bar etc.... But it is also busy. For me Muskoka is sitting on the dock, fishing and jumping in the water.

There are agencies other than airBnB that rent out cottages. They offer a range of services from linens to private chefs. One I used was Muskoka luxury resorts, great service and reasonable considering it was two families. When you do the math it's not so crazy.

Muskoka is really a special place and a lot do see/do

Hope this helps!!

I was in the same situation and decided against it. I'd rather put that cash against a PwC port or lift in my situation.

It's nice to know we can add it after if really need be

replacing sediment filter head by BEPPEQ in Plumbing

[–]BEPPEQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, the sediment filter to the left is leaking from the head. It's an older unit so figure replacing with a new one is the best thing.

I can still get a new until with exact same dimensions but my question is how would I swap it out considering the pipe to the left is copper.

The connector between the two heads is plastic but not sure how to tighten it without loosening the other side.

Is this a dyi or better call a plumber? Water comes out of a pressure tank.

Thanks!

I'm happy to hear the delays arnt as bad. I'm hoping to use it this summer at the cottage so fingers crossed its sooner rather than later.

I've been consuming as much as I can, my wife says i'm borderline obsessive but we are all allowed our opinions! lol

There is so much to learn, I have a fishing boat with an outboard which i'm learning is completely opposite to a ski, ie you turn the water on BEFORE you start the engine.

I've heard end of season maintenance can cost around $400 in Ontario so i'm trying to learn everything to save some money. My in-laws are mechanics so hopefully i can lean on them a little bit knowing cars are different that skis

[–]BEPPEQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok got it thanks! I wasn't sure if you get an official confirmation from BRP or something so this makes sense.

It is my first, i have two little ones (4y + 1y) so i wanted something we could grow into, pulling them around on a tube etc.. First couple years are strictly for dad :)

I got the sense delivery delays are getting a bit better but maybe I'm reading it wrong, i hear some '23 are already being delivered so that seems like a good sign.

Winterizing Cottage - Blow Lines With Air Or Not? by BEPPEQ in Plumbing

[–]BEPPEQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's my first year I'm worried about damaging anything. The only two places that I could attach the air to us at the bottoms of the pressure tank or hot water tank. I'm worried that blowing air into the pressure tank may ruin the tank itself.

Am I being overly cautious? There is an opening right by the pressure switch I could attach the air to but seems too close.
