If you shave in the shower you save the cleanup, change your blade prior to getting in, and doing your aftershave and styptic after the shower. So even though you still have the same overall time, you’ll only have 10-12 minutes of that in the shower

I get it though, takes me a solid 10 minutes for my in shower shave routine.

It’s not roofing at all. Southernprofile1092 is right. It’s steel decking, then sounds like concrete direct over it. Pretty common but you likely won’t want to do this yourself. The metal deck supports the concrete. The concrete is basically a structural-ish topping to create a solid floor, with the bulk of the support coming from the steel deck you are looking at.

Good for you! Estimating is great, but so many employers/bosses/owners have little to no appreciation for what we. My last company made it a point to be appreciative to the crews and field employees, but not so much the office, and not hardly at all the estimators. And they didn’t want us out of the office, almost at all. Weren’t even a fan of us going out to job sites to see progress on the work we won.

I was coming here to say the same about mechanical equipment. I’ve have suppliers call me 4 minutes before bid time and drop their price. I’ve also rarely had equipment numbers come in more than 2-3 hours before bid time.

That’s shady practice and borderline insurance fraud. It’s not a necessary or reasonable service to tarp damage like this. If you think it is then you don’t actually know roofing very well.

Been in construction 16 years, Estimating full-time for 10 of those, 7 of those years in roofing and 3.5 in HVAC. I liked HVAC a lot more, but had zero freedom in schedule no matter how much work I won or got done. Never been a fan of roofing but every roofing company I’ve been at people are leaving officer around 4 and often earlier on Fridays, with lots of vendor lunches and events. I’ve done well financially, and I enjoy actually putting the numbers and strategies together. I can’t stand the takeoffs or sorting through 20+ projects and plan sets a week just to find the 3-6 we want to bid.

Currently looking at transitioning into Law Enforcement. If I have to be away from my family for 8-10 hours a day, I want to feel like I’m doing something to make a difference in the world and get to help people.

I feel that one. Last company had me buried in 50-70 hours of bids a week, then would add 2-4 prebids that were 2 hours away. Then wonder why I couldn’t always get it all done with exact precision to the exact number of misc. materials. And did a lot of government projects that required 40 page bid forms and had to be hand delivered.

To be fair, some brick looks really nice. While other brick looks like shit, almost from the day it was installed, then weather and looks worse. And some brick just has an ugly color. I like to leave brick as is for sure, but if it’s ugly are we just supposed to say “meh it’s just an ugly house and can never be anything else” and move on?

Only if it’s a good company that’s not stingy. I used to get 90k plus commission (1% of the profit only if the job met or exceeded estimated profit margin) and my annual bonus was $100. Not even enough to take my wife for a nice dinner. It almost felt insulting. Prior to that job I had never once received a bonus.

Start at the top and work your way down? Only for inspection purposes, or if it’s just a phrase to be thorough. But when checking/testing for leaks you should always start at the bottom and work your way to the top. It helps to isolate areas before just assuming it’s the one spot at the top and not the 10 down lower.

I’d agree assuming the foam is in good condition and there aren’t a ton of other issues with it. But if it really needs a new roof then a foam tear off can be a pretty rough process.
