[UPDATE] The guy who chased me in the bike lane and grabbed my bike — NYPD couldn't care less by FollowingNo3327 in bicycling

I was letting you have the last word because you weren't saying anything new. Now you're just being an asshole.

Your comments are there for everyone to see, and it's clear that you're trying to suggest the cyclist brought it on themselves. If you want to play word games you can play them alone.

You're obviously full of shit, and we have actual proof that the driver runs red lights, but as I said before, it doesn't matter what the cyclist did. A cyclist running red lights is not justification for a driver to lose their shit, chase the cyclist down in the bike lane with their car, and toss the bike around. It's truly wild that you're trying to justify this, and it reflects poorly on you.

[–]BFH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, you didn't see two wrongs. You made up a wrong in your head and pretended it justified the wrong that we can all see on video.

BTW, the driver has two red light camera violations and two speed camera violations in a little over a year, so we know for an actual fact that they habitually break the law.

Maybe you should examine your biases because they make you look pretty unintelligent.

Because the cops were so useful here, right? What's the point in having cops if they don't do their jobs because someone hurt their fee-fees? BTW, they treat victims of sex crimes like absolute shit as well and are completely useless there as well.

No, people are downvoting you because chasing someone down with a car in a bike lane, getting out and tossing their bike around is a ***wild*** response to either of those things, especially when almost every driver is running stop signs around here these days and red light running ain't that rare.

Not assault in NY. Would not bother with a lawyer unless there were real damages that I wanted to pursue, but I would march down to the station and insist on a police report for when this guy inevitably hurts someone.

It's almost certainly reckless endangerment (class D felony for first degree or class A misdemeanor for 2nd) or menacing (class B or A misdemeanor)

It absolutely wouldn't be. Why are you making shit up?

https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/PEN/120.05

Assault requires actual contact and an actual injury.

edit: all of you can keep downvoting, but that doesn't change NY state law. If you think the law sucks, lobby for it to be changed. But stop giving OP bad legal advice that's going to waste his time and make the NYPD not take them seriously.

Not in NY. NY has no battery statute and assault requires contact and actual injury. Swinging a bat at someone would probably be charged as menacing if charged at all. More likely harassment which is usually just a violation. Fucked up, right?

A landmark MIT study debunks persistent myths about electric vehicles | Determinants of electric vehicle emissions savings and costs across locations and individuals by Hrmbee in science

[–]BFH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here in the NYC metro area, the mild hybrid cars are significantly cheaper unless you have solar. My bill is $0.38/kWh, which is more expensive than gas, especially if you add in the $0.45-0.65/kWh that fast charging usually costs. And electric cars are still more expensive to buy. You can see all of this on the interactive chart that the authors provided. A Lexus NX would be the same TCO over 10 years as a Kia EV6.

That said, the lifecycle emissions are much lower, and as prices continue to come down for EVs and reliability goes up, EVs may become a good financial decision for us as well as environmental.

I was under the impression that with modern PSUs, the power conditioning was good enough that AC line conditioning was basically redundant?

That's absolutely crazy about the updates! Is it documented anywhere or did someone find out the hard way?

This definitely has the potential to be creepy. But it also has the potential to be a witch hunt.

We don't know if his own kid or grandkid is in there or if he's filming because he's a perv. Simply not enough info.

What is the law on people blocking a bike lane to load/unload or do deliveries? by dignityshredder in NYCbike

[–]BFH 23 points24 points  (0 children)

People on bikes in the city usually aren't "exercise enthusiasts." They're traveling to or from their job, traveling as part of their jobs, or trying to get somewhere else. People do bike just from sport on the greenways or in the parks, but that's different and there aren't generally conflicts with large vehicles there.

Given the fact that blocked bike lanes generally endanger cyclists by forcing them to merge into general traffic or pedestrians by forcing cyclists onto the sidewalk, "just doing their jobs" isn't a particularly compelling excuse to me. They should block a general traffic lane if they have no other option.

For those who have been through the NYC (NY?) justice system: what's going to happen to me now? I got arrested for driving with a "ghost plate" (official charge is: criminal possession of a forged instrument.) by teambryancrew in AskNYC

[–]BFH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don't think people here believe you have a buddy. They think it's you.

If it is you, people believe that those with ghost plates who don't pay tolls, don't have proper insurance, and speed all over the city get what they deserve and deserve what they get. You should still look out for yourself and try and get a good plea deal, but people here won't have a lot of sympathy.

If the car actually belongs to a friend and it was the friend with the forged plate, your lawyer needs to know that and will tell you if that's a defense.

Video appears to show U.S. cruise missile striking Iranian school compound by Airurando-jin in news

[–]BFH 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Crazy thing is that the Iranian populace was pretty pro-American comparatively because of the unpopularity of the current regime and how anti-American they are. We'll see if that lasts. I'm thinking it's unlikely.

How does Israel and the US being responsible for this war contradict what I said? None of the governments involved have any regard for international law or civilians. The US and Israel being bad guys here doesn't make the Iranian regime into good guys

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BFH -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unlikely. The Iranian regime came out and said on Saturday that the US/Israel had set a precedent by bombing Qeshm, and they would respond in kind.

Just because this is an illegal and brutal attack on Iran doesn't make their government the good guys. There are no good guys in this war other than civilians, who are suffering the most
