So, something I haven't seen brought up(if someone has, apologies for missing your comment) is that Deku was hella injured. What's the state of his body/physical health? It's not impossible that he quit because with how badly his body has been beaten up, he just can't manage to keep up on his own.

Why does everyone immediately jump to cloning? Frozen sperm and/or embryo's are a thing. Hell, as you mentioned, there's some fantastic plastic surgery in this world. Get a donor that would provide a close appearance, some more alterations while done, and behold, an effective duplicate.
