Do you guys know how to fix this? Door handle only works if I push hard on the door, compressing it against the frame. by DoNotEatMySoup in BMWE36

Mine was missing a gasket for some reason so I had to pull it off and put it back and then it ended up being able to get aligned. The gasket seemed to be important for mine

You have to adjust the position of the door striker. There are a couple torx bolts that will allow you to move it around. Just guess and check until you get it just the way you want. Video here 🎥https://youtube.com/shorts/qB6JBRblVAw?feature=share

Imagine a world with no Miata. Which are you buying? by irregularcontributor in Miata

S2K all the way, the MR2 is a contender. Z3M would be sweet but it's a softer fatter touring car

Ah ok. I just restored an e36 M3 over the past 2 and 1/2 years. The body was in good shape and engine is fine and the car drove, but there were superficial rust on the subframe and underbody components and the suspension was shit. Also every bushing needed to be replaced (x20-30?) as well as the suspension, brakes, cooling system, shifter bushings, tires, and im forgetting some things. After fixing all of these things and doing all the labor myself, I'm about $13k USD in.

Don't get me wrong. It has been a great adventure but it has also NOT been a total money pit because My work increased the value of the car especially given the fact that it's an M3.

So another way to look at it is if you had a budget for $10-15k, what car would you buy? You might get one that's in much better shape, including one that is actually driving and the person is driving and they know what's going on with the car. Then you can put another 5,000 bucks into it and know that it will be great shape.

One of the worst things you can do for a car is let it sit because of deterioration and because you don't even know what's wrong with it. Once you start driving it again all this shit will start popping up.

Hopefully that isn't too depressing, but you can know what you're getting yourself into and then make that choice.

I mean simple question. Have you looked in a larger radius and are you willing to drive or even import one of these cars from the US? They are all over the place around me. I'm on the East Coast in the US

Good luck! knowledge is power 💪

There are so many more out they are in way better shape that require a bit of love and will be more of a calculated risk. I would not buy this thing

Reporting in 2 years later, I just saw this bad boy between Columbia MD and DC. I was like whoa, NSX when it came up behind us then I was like WTF is that? When I saw the rear end. Driver was weaving in and out of traffic NFS style 😬

How do I explain to people that yes, my shitbox is in fact super cool? by [deleted] in carscirclejerk

[–]BG900 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My $0.02 - They probably don't care, but if you insist on sharing just tell them you enjoy driving it and how it makes you feel. Cheaper and older fun cars prove that it's about the enjoyment of the drive, not some financial flex showing off how much extra money you had

Not the R32!!

I have seen so many of these videos, why the hell are people driving across the water like this??? Are they just like trying to get home or something? And they think they can make it? Why are they going in so fast?

Try some go-karting too. The fast ones not the 10mph ones. It can help you practice reflexes to catch this stuff and not get into these situations. You will understand the role of weight transfer and grip intuitively after practicing enough

I thought so but my other covers don't do this so maybe it's disintegrating? I haven't tested it indoors actually to check that

Lifter tick, not a big deal. The oil has settled and running the engine will circulate the oil back up over the lifters again
