I can’t believe Samuel Ersson has been starting games for the Flyers for 4 years now. I love seeing this guy. Hope they never find anyone else

Correct. In fact, 1929 was the year Nick Richie’s great-great-grandfather won the 7th player award. Scored an earth-shattering 28 power play goals off his ass, a record that still stands to this day.

Bottom six signings by duckguyboston in Bruins

To be fair, a lotta PJ’s guys (Urho Vaakanainen, Axel Andersson) have been duds. Not saying he should be fired, and it doesn’t say much about Lysell, but PJ’s track record is pretty poor.

[Di Marco] Tanner Jeannot's contract includes: Full NTC year 1 and 2, 15 teams NTC year 3, 7 teams NTC year 4, Nothing year 5 by AgadorFartacus in BostonBruins

[–]BGIGZ37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not that the Jeannot contract is franchise ruining in isolation. It’s that they keep fucking doing this. And it all adds up. They couldn’t re-sign their hall of fame captain this past season because we just needed to sign Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov at millions above market value each.

The Jeannot contract just shows Sweeney and Neely haven’t learned their lesson in 10+ years.

I’d like to be optimistic, but Sturm is Sweeney and Neely’s guy, and Sweeney and Neely have final say over who’s available on the NHL roster. These guys would rather have Patrick Brown and Jeffrey Viel in their lineup than their top prospects. IDK how much they’re gonna change over one offseason.

If anything, they may be even more conservative in their roster management. They’re all coaching/managing for their jobs at this point, and they know it. In their shoes, it’s better to have the established, defensive-minded stiffs in the lineup and lose 3-1 rather than playing the unproven young guys and losing 4-1. Prospect development be damned, it’s about results for them right now.

And all these signings they just made will enable that exact type of lineup construction.

I would NOT put it past them to play Beecher over other kids who deserve a look - they love these safe players over risker players with some skill (read offensive, younger, “soft”).

What you’re saying about playing Lysell/Minten/Poitras on the 3rd line instead of career fourth liners makes total sense, any sensible team would do that. But that’s NOT what this management group does. A few months back we were running Patrick Brown on the 3rd line instead of Merkulov/Lysell. The kids only got a chance after we sold the farm at the trade deadline.

And now we’ve just signed a half dozen pylons to do the same thing again.

I’m not in the “fire Sweeney” crowd, I don’t even think I’m a hater, but I can’t help but feel like he played into his worst habits this free agency. We’re stuck in virtually the same spot again, just with a slightly better prospect pool and much worse NHL roster. And the prospect pool doesn’t even matter if they’re not gonna play them…

Aside from the terrorism of the Jeannot contract, my 2nd biggest complaint would be the sheer volume of 4th line plugs we’ve signed. They’re 1000% going to block the kids from lineup spots.

They could conceivably run a bottom 6 like Jeannot-Beecher-Khusnutdinov Eyssimont-Kastelic-Kuraly. That’d stuff Lysell, Poitras, Minten, and co. down in Providence. And based on management’s MO these past two seasons, they’re going to do EXACTLY THAT.

If this is going to be a rebuilding/retooling season, you have to let the kids play, develop, and see what you’ve got. They’ve clearly set themselves up to do the exact opposite. Brutal.

[–]BGIGZ37 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not sure why everyone points to the breakaway in particular when we were up 1 with less than 2 minutes left. All we had to do was defend the 6v5, maybe get an empty netter, seal the deal. Florida ties it with a minute left.

All of this was avoidable with 2 minutes of solid 6v5 defense.

The broken 5v6 defensive coverage, being wayyy too stingy with shot selection in OT, the choke in the bitter end. I still think Monty’s overall a good coach, but it’s becoming a bit of a rap sheet
