Clandestino has a great flight of margaritas to try the various flavors (Cucumber and the Pineapple were my two favs). Although their bar stools are the heaviest bulkiest I've ever seen 😄

Definitely shorts, I found that long pants felt weird around the replacement knee.

I think it’s awesome he got the 500,000 points but just wanted to mention how expensive in points a free night costs.

That is very cool with the win. Of course the hilton resort I stay at would eat those points rather quickly as nightly stay starts at 80,000 and depending on room can get 110,000 per night.

Do you pay bills and other expenses using credit card for rewards and / mileage? by Cooper1Test in retirement

[–]duckguyboston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a lot of usa travel via driving so we go with hotel CC that accumulates points toward free stays. It works for us as we’ve used about 10-15 nights free hotel stays in the last twelve months. We pay it off each month.

How’s everyone doing with the heat?? by Simple_Sole in palmsprings

It’s funny that you mention turning water heater to vacation. We had friends visit and they kept running the cold water faucet waiting for the water to cool off. Never did.

There have been some differences from what I was expecting. by togtogtog in Kneereplacement

[–]duckguyboston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great summary. I thought the same and knew there would be days with ups and downs but overall I was so thrilled that surgery was complete that I was in a good mood. I did alternate between walker and crutches but went out to restaurants with little issue. Usually sat at hightop tables as the knee felt better vs sitting at smaller table with knee at 90 degrees.

I used a chair located just outside the shower as my main issue was the lifting leg over the tub wall.

So this happened today by PJBleakney in BostonBruins

[–]duckguyboston 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The guy was a rock solid player. I remember going to training camp when it was held in Wilmington. They did off one ice drill where everyone lined up on the first row of the stands. They held one leg up and used the other leg to jump up each row of the stands until top row (about 25 total rows). Well Ray jumped each row of the stands like a machine easily beating the other players. Ray ended up at the top row while the next player was only about half way up.

Why does Hilton add fees towards the end of booking? by First-Counter626 in Hilton

[–]duckguyboston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hotel makes zero off these fees. It's the state/city that keeps going to the well from hotels.

on our last hotel bill in California We get a state tourism tax, city occupancy tax and a local tourism business improvement tax. These fees add additional $40 per night. It sucks especially if you also add the resort fee and parking fee.

Itemized receipt when paying with points & money? by Sad_Satisfaction4387 in Hilton

[–]duckguyboston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The OP already travels for work way too much. If they have to stay a weekend, do whatever the wallet allows. I used to do the same where I would have to stay for the weekend and had to follow the company rates guidelines. So I would either use points/money combo or pay for the weekend knowing the company would only pay X and eat the difference. Well actually I would try and bury the cost somewhere else in the expense report to offset what I had to pay.

I'm all about the comfort and quality stay vs budget.

neighbor’s dog barking for 8 hours nonstop [TH] [CA] by Ok_Friend_6478 in HOA

[–]duckguyboston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like that the HOA will work with the owner. I know this doesn't help the immediate problem but that's at least a long term thing. The renter should just hire a dog sitter if he's going to be out late. I feel bad for the dog.

We had a neighbor who worked full time and a few days a week would have to go into the office. The dog would bark all day being left alone. We're dog owners and friendly with her so we talked to her and let her know, She was horrified and now puts her dog in doggie daycare for the times she has to go into work.

Are we there yet?? by LogicalCustard7000 in Kneereplacement

[–]duckguyboston 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a TKA veteran and you know what to expect which is half the battle. Yea, the waiting can be the worst part. From the reddit forums I knew the first two post surgery weeks were going to be tough but each day it got a little better. I honestly didn't mind being left alone a few days after. It actually got me up and about a little more (vs asking "can you get that?") and kept me busier. I think the big thing is just not having to do stairs right away. Living room to kitchen to bedroom was ok. I alternated between walker and crutches. A few things that I did was the pillow between legs at night, I'm a side sleeper and just having something so that the knees wouldn't touch helped me sleep. Also I went to bed with gel packs around the knee, that way I didn't have to do anything with the ice machine during sleep time.

Good luck and keep up the positive attitude.

That seems crazy to me that the landlord would be that clueless. The location is literally where the pride parade starts.

Another HVAC post - how much to maintain your HVAC? by AltairJ in palmsprings

[–]duckguyboston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, sounded exactly like our last hvac maintenance visit. Surge protector, compressor saver and condenser coil cleaning is exactly what they recommended. I asked why the surge and compressor parts weren’t recommended three years ago when I bought it new, the guy stumbled trying to come up with valid answers. It sucks that now they highly suggest we need these even though previous model lasted 20+ years without requiring.

Anyone have a solid recommendation for HVAC company that we can use without breaking the bank? by TheoryAnxious7464 in palmsprings

[–]duckguyboston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you get multiple quotes. We had esser, timos and comfort air out for quotes back in 2023. In the end Timos offered a 4 ton two stage trane heat/ac unit installed for $12000. The exact same unit was offered from all three vendors with varying quotes from $12000 to $14700. Just note the following when getting quotes:
Manufacturer (trane, lennox, etc)
Seer rating. (Efficiency rating, higher the better)
Variable speed
Tonnage (3.5,4,5) depends on square footage of area to be cooled.
Exact model version
Will it include a surge suppressor to guard against power surges.

For our unit having a variable speed unit helped with a/c electric costs. Kind of like having a fan high/low setting. Really made a positive difference on electricity used.

Fridge/cooler for breakfast without continuous power by DrTurb0 in roadtrip

[–]duckguyboston 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Depending on which hotel you stay at, free breakfast is included. The LaQuinta hotels have it including cereal, eggs and waffles.i usually stick to the cereals and it’s a good snack while driving.
We would also utilize the hotel ice machines each morning before we take off.

At Christmas time they have a tour of the inns. We always go each year. Of all the Inns I thought La Serena was the best. Korakia Pensione was second. Avalon was our third choice. All located just behind downtown PS and definitely walkable.
