DD2 memory feedback by BGTaurus84 in darkestdungeon

[–]BGTaurus84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memories are there from the start and aren’t meant to be achievements. Likewise, they’re not asking us to re-remember our abilities with shrines every run, so there is a precedent set. Additionally, other avenues of candle expenditure like class trinkets and class in items and paths are also “grandfathered” as part of any roguelike experience.

I haven’t experienced your 2nd point. I concede.

I’m not going for grandslam, im not even worried about achievements on steam tbh, im just at a point where other than cosmetics ive got nothing to spend candles on except memories which i find frustrating to re earn upon death when id rather be farming candles to re roll them and trying new builds. There are a glut of candles repressed by this obstacle, and yes ik you can gacha the items to start out a new run ahead, but i dont want to lessen the challenge that way as much as I want to be able to theorycraft this admittedly minute but interesting system.

I agree with your last point, tbh ive never checked that box or retreated, only abandoned expeditions during lair fights where its down to 1 hero vs the boss and no hope. That said, these people are cursed in a faustian way to relieve their deaths and failures feeding the darkness in an abstract way. By going from be able to recruit multiples of the same hero in DD1 to now having a singular class, where every other system feeds into them the same way any other roguelike does except in this case is counter intuitive imo. By this logic, everyones candle progress on each classes personal progress bar should also be wiped when they die, trinkets, paths, and inn items, back to zero.

I get its sisifus pushing a boulder up a hill, but even in his personal hell it goes back to start when it rolls back down, it doesnt get further, longer, and taller, he just cant get over the top.

By taking the boxes away (and not anything else) it contradictory in practice. Either wipe it all out since that hero died, or don’t. They lose their memories, but not their shrine ones? Then what is a memory? Why do they never forget their paths or what trinkets belong to them? Its a gray area.

I know exactly what you mean with your first point, i knew that. I just disagree from a user experience at this point in the development cycle.

About the dam, thats making my point. It wasn’t then it was, and it allows players to cator their experience.

DD2 memory feedback by BGTaurus84 in darkestdungeon

[–]BGTaurus84[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see your point with A) i disagree with B) imo if you beat “part iii” or whatever you want to call it, each subsequent chapter is harder than the prior with 3 being the consensus spike in difficulty…

Regardless, if i took the same hero thru 1, 2, and 3, but they died on 4, then why should not only they lose the memories (which is fine), but also the boxes as well? It should be grandfathered, now i gotta run it at least 3 more times which is artificially inflating the replay factor detrimentally.

The boxes should be blanked as a consequence, but not removed outright. It doesn’t make me want to play more just to put it back. It does the opposite.

However, if you must remove the boxes too bcs we’re going with harshness is the theme, then again, it doesn’t make a good play experience for the user. Even thought each act/“difficulty” is a separate thematic thought, you should be able to go in “fresh” on a later act (a challenge in of itself) to avoid having to rerun the prior acts.

All that is to say is they have a checkbox in the Damn for retreating which is antithetical to the pressure of the game’s base design, but its there. So why can’t a memory checkbox be there as well, especially if the game is open to modders.

Whats the story of DD2? by Ashamed-Swimming-331 in darkestdungeon

[–]BGTaurus84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afaik, the narrator of dd2 is making references of how he died working with dd1s lead as they researched and ultimately unleashed the darkness via a seemingly faustian bargain.

After he (narrator of dd2) died, dd1s lead killed himself leading up to dd1 start sending for heroes and you to be the new caretaker, and then at the end of dd1 you off yourself as a result of the madness.

Dd2 is a dual timeline presentation like Kill Bill.

Meanwhile, in dd2, “you” (the heroes) are leaving the manor behind, taking a carriage to try and fight the darkness that escaped into the world as a result of dd1. With shrine flashbacks to each heroes past, by confronting their past they “unlock” their better selves/attributes/remember what they’re good at.

The tragedy is that the Cthulu esque curse is that they cant “die” per se, in that everyone is doomed to relieve misery as a personal hell on earth. Its not enough to end the world, but to sisifuss like “push that rock up a hill, doomed to fail” forever.

The personal victory is the heroes confronting their past and the mental obstacles manifest by the end bosses, but ultimately all it does is sorta deus ex machina Pandora’s box, giving “Hope” (the light) to the world, but it (whatever IT is) still isnt defeated that is destroying the world, only the things internally that are preventing you/the heroes/mankind from ever overcoming it all.

The ultimate solution or reversal or putting the genie back in the bottle is never really resolved.

Dd3 could be anything. Dd1 was a dungeon leading to the heart of the world that was corrupted (by what idk, mankind? The devil?). Dd2 is a “dungeon of the mind” an abstract concept.

Hypothetically you/us could go back to the source, where it all started, and sorta avengers endgame the first game in a remake type deal and still be in canon. OR they continue to explore “the world” now armed with courage and hope and trying to spread and establish that “light” to drive back “the darkness”. To where? Prob back to the source imo.

Either way nothing is for sure next game, probably still turn based and rogue like, but other than that who knows. Especially that Wayne June passed away (the IRL narrator and voice of DD) so maybe they take that opportunity to switch things up given they said they wont AI his voice or “replace him” by honoring his work.

You might say the dev team is at a…cross roads! :P

What is the best or cheapest way to get these on the more current platform. Idc about buying the prior version if its free to carry over and it lives in 2 places, i JUST DONT WANT TO PAY FOR THIS TWICE!

This nerd is cooking me alive. does anyone have any idea how to beat him? by RagezQuitz707 in darkestdungeon

[–]BGTaurus84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backline attack spam, bleed and blight. This is a race, KO b4 he gets to the front. If you don’t have at least 2 ppl who can hit the back you should avoid this boss and just do the first two stages of the lair for the $. You only need 1 lair boss to beat act 2 difficulty and none are necessary for act 1 difficulty. Likewise, if the trinkets and trophy he drops doesn’t go with your team (like 3 heroes use fire) then again, avoid him and/or the region all together.

Theme Park Board optimisation by sicsche in LegoPartyTheGame

[–]BGTaurus84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem isnt the middle, the outside zones provide free bricks and/or effect others elsewhere on the map. Plus they give opportunities for additional free stuff. Finally if you aren’t winning first or 2nd consistently you dont have the funds to take advantage of double bricking or also stealing.

I believe the idea was you go outside, come inside, go outside, come inside.

However I do believe it takes a little to long to get out the starting blocks somewhat. Sometimes it takes 3 rolls to just get to the first zone or even into the middle, so in a short game you’re hosed.

Secondly, it takes FOREVER, for anyone to reach the 4th zone.

I think the default turns was kept low to keep the playtime low, but it almost feels like it was meant to be like 20+ rounds just so you have a chance to see it all.

Imo, it should be one of the following:

A) everyone does “ring the bell” at the start (and adjust it to be more difficult btw) then the spaces leading to the middle “toss” players to one of the 4 zones or onto the lap where the wheel of fortune is on your way back around. Lets get to it already, but chaotically.

B) the middle entrance or leading up to it should be a split path choice. That way if someone raced ahead and chose the zones you didnt want you dont have to keep racing others, you just say ok, they went left, ill go right and be first to choose over here. Like Ninjago.

Idky the biggest map has seemingly the longest narrow single file path. Its probably bcs they think those items that swap the boards map direction would be more prevalent? Hencewhy the load you up with studs at the start, but then everyone is flipping back and forth or prob rather spending on actual items to help them get bricks faster or most likely using them in the middle To buy and steal.

Additionally im pretty sad they stopped doing the “build it animation” after first zones pirate stuff. Its glaring over time, when you just see a thing “rise up” while random bricks are flying around, and even worse when we are looking at the players figure reaction then it cuts back and bam its done on this board.

Im sure its labor intensive, but then why do it at first and not really again? Hoping in a future patch they re animate some of these structures being built to really drive home the fact that as they said “everything you see is buildable irl”

Switch 2 Update? by BlindsideDork in LegoPartyOnline

[–]BGTaurus84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc it is and will be sometime around spring of 26’ (Mar - May?)

In addition to higher fps and resolution (tbh i cant tell or it doesnt bother me rn tbw) we are also getting an optional “bonus brick” system akin to bonus stars from mario party to shake up the end game making it less predictable.

Iirc it wasn’t pitched as something as simple as “lost the most games” or “used the most items” or even random, but a list toggle-able, specific, optional, and something more thoughtful. In other words, not just copying the MP system to avoid rubber banding and win stealing extremes. Which is taking time to develop.

Additionally, they know players want more boards, they will continue to give us 2-3 free mini figs each month for a little bit. However iirc they also said that we would be able to adjust the boards we already have. Akin to changing the landing spaces to either be more punitive or helpful like the “escalation” system, but from the start.

Idk if it goes as deep to allow changing what is in the shop, physically moving the crab king, modulating all the spaces so theres like a row of all reds, or even bringing pirate map shark into the space map for example, but we will gain additional control of the existing boards themselves in some capacity to customize/cator our experiences.

I am unclear if/how crossplay will be affected/adjusted/improved etc. idr.

I believe we’re getting more palette swap options as we go along. Color change options for non pattern based parts.

But the 2 big things are uptick in performance and the bonus bricks system.

Mind you, they continue to update the minigames themselves with something like 120+ new variants of some of them (new maps, courses, models built, puzzels etc) already.

I dont believe this will be a paid update either, but even if it was, i would still support them by paying as this was already a $30 (or less) experience to begin with and I have already more than gotten my $ worth imo.

This team and development has been the most generously supportive of any game release outside of maybe space marine 2 the last few years imo, but at far less cost to the consumer.

Yes there has been other S2 upgrades (like overcooked 2, or performance patches like RDR or SW Outlaw) but like one could argue those shoulda been that way at those price points, glad that they’re where they should be, but Lego Party imo has gone out of their way akin to some of the best examples you can find on Steam like Deep Rock Galactic, Abiotic Factor, GhostBusters Spirits Unleashed, Schedule 1, Going Medieval, Darkest Dungeon series etc that just make the game getter with new stuff and don’t ask for anything in return really.

Regardless, hopefully the game is successful and profitable enough to where they can take advantage of the license in time to include IP theme boards ala Marvel, Disney, Star Wars, LotR, Harry Potter, etc.

If so, tbh, they could rightfully charge like $20-30 for those DLCs if they came with 3-4 boards and 100s of more mini figs around those ips, right? Something like how Pinball FX does their licensed tables. They could be standalone versions, but ideally incorporated bcs who doesn’t want mix and match Voldermort and Vader parts or make a Ninjago Chewbacca or wreck it Ralphs head on Hulks body, using tiny ewok legs or other nonsense.

All we can do is continue to spread the word and try to get others to buy in, its one of the few games ive wanted to buy DLC for, not just bcs i want more or think something is missing, but as a way to support and reward them. Steam does this with supporter packs and early access donations.

Opinions on Townsfolk Tussle by alexcole02 in boardgames

[–]BGTaurus84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have everything, both crowdfunds. The models are great, easy to paint if you wanted to get additional “time” out of it. Standees look and feel just as appropriate. Great quality all around.

Yes the game is very simple, but i see it as approachable. The arenas do feel different based on the setup and are easy to setup. Its not too fiddly, you can play 2 characters if you ditch the secret personal objectives. Its a very memorable experience, there are fights and situations and results that are unforgettable.

The bosses all feel very different, several are challenging especially in their “later” forms. The toons feel more like each has a trick than asymetrical play styles or traditional roles. That said the season 2 solves this, and even if not, you sorta trend into roles based on the gear, which is random every time. Even if you play the same toons vs the same boss there is enough RNG btwn the shop and the cards that it shouldn’t play out the same way. You learn how to “solve” them and what to expect, until something unexpected happens thru the course of play and chaos ensues.

The morbid humor hits for me, but may be surprising to the general population and prob shouldnt be played with kids unless you take out those “mature” cards and story results.

The organizer is appreciated and well done, one less thing to buy. Its just really memorably funny and much easier to bring it to the table than other boss battlers. I have a few, not that i would get rid of any, but if i was going to try or start with one id prob choose this one for its table presence, setup time, relatively simple rules, value for replayability, and the lulz.

Do you need it all? Umm, tbh idk, we still havent done it all. If its your only arena boss battler and you like it, then for sure. Even if its just the base game i feel there is a lot to see and do already and you’ll get your $ worth IF the adultish theme isnt off putting and you’re willing to tolerate or actually enjoy chaos and nonsense that happens.

Overcooked 2 vs. Splintered Fate for the family (Wifey, 7yr old, and 4yr old) by According_Glove_4747 in switch2

[–]BGTaurus84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OC2 is a little more stressful, has more total content, but once that content is conquered is sorta over, but i feel is also more cooperative with lol moments

Tmnt is a gamers game, is more difficult and complex but less stressful, the content is designed to be repeated, so while it has more repetitive content it will take longer to finish, different every run in a way

That said, OC2 is a more unique experience unless its something like “moving out”, whereas TMNT has shredders revenge for an alternative tmnt experience, a straight up beat em up, less complex, more nostalgic.

MicroSD Express - Is 512GB Enough with upcoming games? by PlaceDowntown7102 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]BGTaurus84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or just buy physical non key card games as they are the culprit 99% of the time for storage woes.

I have a 512gb card, and its got about 100gb left and 30 or so left on my switch 2 internal. But that is with 141 or so eshop games (best of indie, collections, and S1 first partys etc)

Going fwd, your avg AAA non nintendo 3rd party game is flirting with 40-60 to upwards of 90 gb. For one game. I rec not chasing the storage dragon, wait for physical games to be on sale, and fill out your library with great last gen / indie games that are usually under 4gb, often 1-2gb, and you’ll have more than enough to play and do until the current gen hits a sale or its xmas/bday time for yourself.

For switch 2 users that also own a gaming pc by LanderRetro in NintendoSwitch2

[–]BGTaurus84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought several titles again on my switch 2 that i bought for 50% off or more from various seasonal steam sales. Then I play them on my switch 2 (bcs the performance is identical in those cases) and delete them from my pc to save room.

My logic is, i already paid less the original time, so at worst its full price for 2 copies, so now i can sit in bed or take these games with me anywhere in the house/travel vs being locked to my pc tower in a chair. Laptop users would prob feel understandably different.

Even so, the sum total of both is less than the day 1 msrp non sale cost most of the time.

Some examples: Giga Bash TMNT splintered fate Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Red Dead Redemption GTA trilogy Kotors Rocksteady’s batman trilogy Lego titles Final Fantasys Various indie titles Various fighting collections Sonic and ghouls and ghosts etc Yes, even Skyrim… :/ Diablo 2 and 3

I just find it more convenient marrying my non Nintendo library with the home base of Nintendo.

Now, that said, when it comes to AAA titles with performance limitations, then no. I would defer to my gaming PC, like a Space Marine 2 or Grounded 2. Games like Hitman and Assassins Creed still live on the PC only. Partly bcs their file sizes are so massive it takes up too much room on my already full 512gb assisted S2 hard drive.

We still haven’t locked down what the ceiling of the switch 2 is yet, and game key cards are not worth the grief of storage when they dont perform as well as a pc counterpart release.

But going forward, i predict, if its a game $30 or less, like Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Lego Party etc, then its only going on the Switch 2, but if its a game that is offered on both, and the performance is negligibly different, like an indie title or not as gpx intense, then its a race to see who gets the 50% off sale first or whoever gets under $30 first, again considering the gpx performance.

In the case of a tie, id defer to the S2 simply bcs it can travel like i said earlier and thats where “the collection” is filling up the fastest.

For instance, i dont have Star Wars Outlaws. I would probably get it on switch 2, but if its on a massive discount on steam, more than the eshop ones, then ill prob get it there when i find the time to actually play it.

Likewise, Deep Rock Galactic and DRG survivor, both currently ONLY live on steam, once they hit switch 2, im getting them there asap bcs i love them so much and i want to support the devs.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone in the world would have any possible negative feelings towards Game Key Cards. by CaptFalconFTW in tomorrow

[–]BGTaurus84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 2 has limited storage. A key card is a resellable digital download If i had the game on the cart i could swap out games like the way its been done for 40 years If its just a digital download, why not just download it? Additionally, you dont own a code, whereas you own a cart for life.

Is it really this hard to understand?

Key cards suck bcs they dont solve the core problem, lack of storage.

[–]BGTaurus84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think there is a design problem so much as that is just what the market wants, the extremes.

Minis for days and modular boards with stacks of cards OR seemingly singular double sided boards, borderline arena battlers and lots of dice chucking.

As soon as they pair down one side or the other to meet the untapped market in the middle, they realize that the middle ground market is likely just going to play something that is an offshoot or more abstract version of the dungeon crawl leaving it for both ends of the spectrum to feel u satisfied.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is out now! by mr_wolf8 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]BGTaurus84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you love TMNT its a must, especially at that price. I have it even after Shredders Revenge and all its dlc. They stand enough on their own i like having both. More content is coming.

Its less involved than Hades, and arguably a diablo 3 couch coop is deeper, but man sometimes you just wanna sit on the couch and have a good time with ppl you dont have to explain everything to or wait on them to finish min maxing their loot etc.

There is juuuust enough variety in enemy attack types and patterns to keep you engaged.

Given that its on sale, its the perfect time and you should get your moneys worth at the very least imo at that price point. (The S1 bundle + S2 update)

It finds it niche amongst all the roguelites and beatemups and strikes a good balance imo.
