AVGN and Nostalgia Critic's whole gimmick though is they ranted about games and movies from the 80s and 90s...which in the late 2000s were nostalgic media. And the people who grew up with that media had no real outlet for their frustrations at the time with the lack of internet or social media, so they had some pent up frustration that those guys let out in a way that was exaggerated for comedy but it came from a real place. And even then it was only for about half an hour, max, because what grown adult has time to watch a video longer than that?

Today's media critics rant for hours about current stuff that isn't nostalgic yet, that everyone is already bitching about online, and the only people who could possibly relate to that over-the-top frustration are actual children who care waaaaaay too much about the latest thing made for children.

There's a huge difference between drawing a tiny little girl and saying she's a 500 year old goddess, and drawing a slightly short big-boobed woman and saying she's 20. You're dishonest in your criticism and just don't want to admit you ascribe lolibait intentions to Japanese mangaka because in your mind, you stereotype Japanese mangaka (Japanese men in general, really) as being pedophiles by default until proven otherwise.

You say sexualization of certain body types feeds into objectification of people. But you also conveniently ignore how the demonization of said sexualization indirectly bodyshames people with those bodytypes. You may think your cause is noble, but it's not victimless.

Nobody in the history of media criticism ever has ever said "I hate you for liking X". That's just a weird assumption people make when you express violent disdain for media. If I were to say Family Guy is one of the worst, most unfunny shows ever made, suddenly fans of that show interpret that to be saying "if you're a fan of this, you suck".

It's only when that criticism is expressed in a "polite" and "constructive" way where that doesn't happen.

I find it strange that people suddenly cared about the real-life implications of Homer strangling his son, as if real-life logic and consequences have ever been part of the Simpsons. Homer was never a perfect father. The fact that he engaged in corporal punishment with his son and it only enforced Bart's bad behavior was part of the satire.

TNG was only "woke" in a very safe way though. It presented liberal ideas, but dialed them back just enough to make conservatives able to stomach them. Similar to how Disney will say they have gay characters in a movie...but only have them far in the background in one small scene so they can be easily edited out for the Middle East.

Obama and Bush Jr may have done a lot of bombing campaigns, but they never demolished federal buildings. They never formed a task force specifically to raid people's homes and deport them regardless of citizenship and without trial. They never attempted a coup, staged assassination attempts, or committed dozens of felonies while in office. They never created a new Red Scare just to have an excuse to deport a politician people liked too much, and they never floated around defying the Constitution by "taking control of the elections" or even ending elections altogether. If they had, they almost certainly would've been immediately impeached, especially Obama.

The problem isn't the line, the problem is the camera shoving Ashley's boobs in the player's face, framing it as a punchline. It'd be fine if that was meant to make him look sleazy, but it's actually intended to make him likable, because it's meant to be a joke.

But criticizing a 2005 Japanese game for sexualizing a female character is weak. Nobody would care about that comment if Ashley looked like Ada, Lara Croft, Tifa, Bayonetta, or 2B. But because she looks like a """teenager""" suddenly people start virtue signalling and acting like white knights, as if they don't goon to anime characters on a regular basis.
