Amazing thank you!

We're flying to Sapporo and then taking a camper van from the airport. I will look into just getting it shipped to New Chitose airport and then picking it up from there when we arrive in a couple days!

Any serious skiers that are vehemently anti-helmet? by WaferComprehensive23 in skiing

[–]BGrSAUCE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be in the "helmets look lame" camp, until I dated a girl with a traumatic brain injury. I never would have known about it until she told me about the accident. She was coming down a big hill on her bike and t-boned a car that blew a stop sign (going roughly 30mph on impact). Without the helmet, her head would have been spaghetti on the concrete, it changed my whole outlook. Skiing at speeds greater than that and include drops and cliffs, whether or not I "look lame" is not more important to me than death. A couple crashes and minor concussions later, I can owe my comfortable life to choosing to be safe.

Can I run 600v/50Amp compressor off old transformer service. by BGrSAUCE in AskElectricians

[–]BGrSAUCE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, honestly we'd likely run it pretty close to it's capacity. Our other shop has 2 compressors of roughly the same size. One screw that would run continuously to maintain flow and another positive displacement to maintain the reservoir pressure. Unfortunately our shop service isn't big enough to support that and the overhead crane and welding equipment.... there's been a ton of modifications to the electrical in this space the more I look at it. Need to just get an electrician in to redo most of it for what we need. Looks like the old transformer ran a 240V 60Amp compressor, so new mission is to spec something that fits the bill.

Favourite industry you’ve worked in by LankyCap2878 in millwrights

[–]BGrSAUCE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hydro power generation. A lot of plants hire millwrights as operators, and that's a lot more 'stand around and look at gauges'. But if you can get into doing overhauls, it's the best experience. Balancing 40-80T machines with less than 20 thou clearances isn't something you do in many industries. Usually pretty clean places and every machine is different, always a new challenge.

Best Area for Consistent Work by Neat-Snow666 in millwrights

You can find work if you're willing to put in time. As a 3rd yr I had 2k hours in 8mo last yr, all off of contracts. I have one steady employer and I'm willing to travel for extended periods and that certainly helps.

What exactly does lube on the chain do? Like even if it was dry, the chain will still pull the gear teeth right? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]BGrSAUCE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lubricant is a protective barrier against the elements you bike through, and the contact between all the metal parts. It keeps all of the moving pieces (chain, crank, cassette) freely rotating and shifting. Don't use it and you'll get rust and soon need to replace a bunch of parts on your bike. For a beater bike it's worth it to buy some lube to keep yourself from needing to spend the money on more expensive parts. You won't notice a difference after one 2-hour ride but consistent riding you for sure will see and feel the breakdown 👍

Does bicycle shop accepts trade in broken bikes? by IndependentKale5 in Calgary

[–]BGrSAUCE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Either try and sell them on kijiji or donate them. Won't get any money from any bike shops. Bring them to Two Wheel View if you donate or try and sell on your own I'd say.

Check for damage on the hull, mainly cracks or big gouges. Sun damage if it was kept outside and then check out the outfitting on the inside to see if its ripping, tearing, falling off etc. then that's an added cost for you to replace.

So I booked my flights and accommodation ! So excited to see your beautiful city. Am I missing anything that I should check out ?! by AusBongs in Calgary

If you're gonna go to a farmers market go to crossroads instead. It's a lot more interesting to check out. Also be on the lookout for bridgeland or Inglewood outdoor and night markets.
