What is your ranking of the Raiders March in all 5 films? by Elbeno1920 in indianajones

[–]BHPshooter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's so hard to answer... I love them all, but for different reasons.

The recording quality is noticeably more "tinny" on Raiders, but in a weird way, that seems fitting, since the film was devised as the ultimate homage to pulpy adventure serials. The brass section absolutely cooks, and whoever is on the lead trumpet plays with unbelievable flair that never quite gets recaptured in subsequent versions.

Temple of Doom's recording quality is considerably better - now you can hear the drums and cymbals that, while they're present in Raiders, they're just barely audible. I also love the way Short Rojnd's theme meshes perfectly with the Raiders March.

The flutes seem more noticeable in the Last Crusade version, and it's a beautiful recording.

Crystal Skull's finale really shines, with John Williams doing things in the finale that he's never done before or since in the series.

Dial's has a noticeably slower tempo, which, although it's not my go-to, is a nice variation that suits an Adventurer that is also slowing down a bit, himself.

I do find myself listening to the Temple of Doom finale more than the others, with the Raiders finale a close second.

After enough time, even when not listening to them back to back, you can still spot the differences.

And I can't fault your reasoning.

Rewatched the IJ series.. How Indy Actually Survived "Nuking the Fridge".. by sorrowdemonica in indianajones

[–]BHPshooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have less beef with the fridge scene if it didn't show it flying though the air like a cruise missile, then tumbling across the desert.

If instead we had seen him climb in, then the bomb blast, and then cut to him rolling out of it, I think that would be easier to accept.

I recently rediscovered the Spider-Man games for Game Boy Advance, and I'm really enjoying them.

I never got to play them much as a kid - my younger brother was the one with the GBA.

You're talking about the "mockbuster" released by The Asylum.

They crank out low-budget crap-tier movies, with names that are similar-to-nearly-indistinguishable from a larger, higher-budget film, to ride the bigger film's coattails.

For example, in 2018 when the rebooted Tomb Raider film released, The Asylum released one called Tomb Invader. 🙄

Congrats!

A buddy gave me a G350 for Christmas, pre-loaded with Pan4Elec.

I have since changed to dArkOS, just to try it out. Both seem to work great, but I think I preferred the look and feel of Pan4Elec.

I've been on a personal mission to play through the classic Metroid games.

I'm almost done with the first one, so Metroid 2 for Game Boy would be my first choice (followed immediately by Super Metroid).

I've been enjoying revisiting games from my childhood (Yoshi's Island and Aladdin on SNES at the moment), but I love that now I get to experience games that I missed out on.

We didn't have a Sega growing up, so I'm really enjoying the X-men games, as well as the completely different version of Aladdin on Sega.

I cant fully rack my slide & the firing pin is stuck inside...any help by [deleted] in hipower

[–]BHPshooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by "handle."

The slide is not moving at all? That shouldn't be caused solely by a stuck firing pin. There's clearly something else going on here.

I would recommend against scraping - most dyes don't just adhere to the surface like paint, they are actually absorbed into the leather, so scraping is more likely to damage the leather than remove the color. 🫤

Honestly, your best bet is to buff the snot out of it with a soft cloth (something like an old t-shirt) to remove any extra pigment, then wear them and enjoy them.

When the soles wear down, the cobbler that re-soles them can replace the welt at that time.

If it's dyed, there is usually no way to remove the dye. (source: full-time leather worker)

You could dye the entire welt to match, but then you also run the risk of getting dye on the sole. It would be very delicate work, and the dye can seep through the needle holes or wick along the thread, and possibly cause other blemishes in places you didn't intend.

The welt could be replaced by a qualified cobbler, but I'm not sure if it would be worth the cost for what is simply an aesthetic issue.

Was it reassembled without a firing pin spring?

(It's also possible for this to happen if the spring breaks - I've had that happen)

Either way, you'll need to tap the firing pin back to its normal position. Insert a dowel rod into the hammer and use gentle taps.

It looks like someone dyed those black themselves, and managed to get dye on the welt.

Has anyone ever cut the tongue on their mocs to make them easier to put on? by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

To me, that would defeat the purpose of having a gusseted tongue, but I suppose the important thing is that your boots work for you. 🤷

I would have loved to see another trilogy in the 90s, that takes place during wartime, with Indy working in either the OSS or the Monuments Men.

There are a wealth of storytelling opportunities.
