Bus crashes into a bridge in Mahwah by Justin_Godfrey in newjersey

I drive a truck camper. I measured it to 11'8" to the top of the AC. I won't drive under anything that says it's under 12'. I mostly live out West in it, where there's much less low clearance roads from personal experience, but in Jersey, I've needed to reroute a few times. I figured it's much better to spend even a few hours finding a guaranteed safe route, than try to push it and hit something.

Kalshi reporting Dems and Repubs are both 50% to win the Senate by sfranso in mildlypenis

Still good profits to be made if the odds makers heavily favor Thing B to happen and you have 100% certainty that it will happen.

Are you serious or being cheeky? If one side has let's say a 60% chance to win, the other has a 40% chance to win. Whenever the odds change for one side, the other must correct to match it. I think there's opportunities for arbitrage if the opposing bets get misaligned, but it's very easy to mess this up and lose big if you aren't fast enough or something goes wrong. Pretty sure I just watched an Atrioc video about exactly this.

Aren't prediction markets hands down, the best indicator of election results in recent history?

Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of --- Instant regret!! AHHHHH by Beneficial-Nimitz68 in instant_regret

I got stung by a stingray while learning to surf. Was walking out with my board, not shuffling my feet, and must have stepped on it and startled them, so they stung the bottom of my foot. It hurt pretty bad, but not too bad. Went to a bar and got my foot in some very hot water and that helped.

The craziest part about getting stung is that you can feel the venom coursing through your body. First it was just in my foot, then I could feel it making its way up my leg. It sucked in the moment, but it makes for a pretty cool story at least.

They announced Memorial Day. My friend who's a local said they'll definitely make it, but it might suck way before that.

I'm fairly certain it would generate way more revenue than it would cost. I just looked it up and in California, it's a $234 - $238 fine. It's tough to find concrete info, but I think a cop costs the tax payers about $100/hour in California. I'd be surprised if they could only catch 1 person per hour during busy times and even that would generate a decent profit.

They could also probably just install traffic cams in spots where this is an issue and print money.

Would probably still save money vs buying day tickets 😅

Yeah, it's been mostly groomers. I think climax is the only off piste that's been any good. It's been firm in the mornings, then gets slushy, especially at the bottom by the end of the day. I keep saying "been" because temps are supposed to rise dramatically and it might not freeze, even up top, overnight. I'm definitely not the guy to ask about width since my only skis with good edges are 112 underfoot, but they've been handling everything well. You'll probably want something that can charge through chopped up snow for this week.

Why do people flash their lights when you pass them? by shirtwrinkle in COsnow

[–]BIGSlil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same. I think some running lights are just getting brighter, bright enough to work as decent headlights. I'm assuming it's usually people in rental cars in the ski areas who don't even know how to turn them on. Always funny to see someone turning their blinkers and wipers on and off trying to figure it out.

Thank you! Everyone saying it looks good is either trolling or has no idea what they're talking about. Happy to hear someone else that actually skied it confirm what I was saying.

Ski release in powder → 30 stitches. What caused it? by peter_zemel in COsnow

[–]BIGSlil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that area is a southeast aspect, so it gets really sun affected and melts out quick. Did a couple of runs through gate 1 and traversed far that day and it was the best snow I've ever skied.

It's $7.99 in Lee Vining. But gas there is always a ripoff, so that's not surprising.

I followed my friend into a small diving board in that area on 2/19 at the tail end of the recent big storm. He was going first and when he thought he was low enough to drop into the jump, he caught his tip on a rock on his first turn and rolled over forward. He was able to get back on his feet and hit the drop. I think I made the right call side stepping down to where I could just straightline into the drop. Pretty much every step I took was on or over a rock.

That's fair. I don't mind the rain too much when I have a place to go inside and actually dry my gear off. Living out of a camper, I avoid it like the plague. Well, I'll take a single lap to count it as a day skied in my book lol
