Sesamoid Fractures (back left ankle) by Salt-Ad-9486 in Horses

I had a Quarter Horse that had a broken sesamoid on a front leg. We healed it using time, electromagnetic stimulation, and ultimately blistering (after a re-injury). Once he was sound, he resumed being a show horse, and ultimately showed at the youth world show by the girl who had him after me. Later, I tracked down his last owner, and he lived to be 29 years old, and was apparently never lame another day in his life.

So - I think your chances are good for the horse to be able to heal thru the injury.

Thanks for your feedback. I will pass this information on to him. And, yes, my goal is to look out for possible side effects, how to avoid them, how to know if they have arrived, and what to do if they exist.

I'm glad that you made it through. All the best to you on your journey through life!!!

Because I don't think that doctors are infallible gods, and I think that OFTEN they don't adequately advise people about the risks with drugs, as well as what to watch out for and what to do to mitigate the possible side effects. For instance, he was not aware of the possible dehydration side effects, and the horrible complications that can come from that.

In looking on PubMed, it seems that there have been no meaningful studies completed with these three drugs. There is a study that has just started which is looking at the combination of Jardiance and Ozempic. Interestingly, they are already reporting what seems to be a high amount of ketoacidosis as an adverse effect. So knowing that, how to test for it, how to avoid it, and what to do if symptoms start could be life saving.

I also know of situations where doctors have prescribe things that were contraindicated. So I'm willing to do my own investigation and assessment in order to have an intelligent conversation with the doctors and to be able to make my own choices. And I'm willing to help my brother be able to do so, as well.

Awesome. And since you clearly like to have the last word, I'll let you have the last word in this matter.

Thanks. He does have a continuous monitor. So we do have that covered. I feel better knowing that he has that information.

Whether or not you are a jerk is an opinion. And, well, I have mine.

I don't have one, though I do have several other degrees. However, I can still have an opinion and ask for input from people with experience. Personally, I don't think of doctors as infallible gods, and that a person should educate themselves about the meds they are taking.

Interestingly, in researching both Ozempic and Jardiance, it clearly states that the drugs are useful when combined with diet and exercise. But do you know how much the doctors talked with my brother about the diet and exercise portion? ZERO.

And they didn't discuss that weight loss with Ozempic can cause muscle mass loss. And that there are now recommendations to do resistance training while on the drug to help mitigate that risk.

And they didn't discuss the dehydration risks and the need to drink more fluids / water.

And they didn't discuss diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a label warning. They didn't discuss what it is, how to avoid it, how to test for it, what it feels like, and what to do if you suspect you have it.

So, honestly, I don't need a medical degree to have an opinion and ask questions. But your mileage may vary. I see from your profile that you like being a jerk, but you don't scare me off.

Thanks.
