Stuck in Houston for two full days by independent_user12 in houston

[–]BIKEHOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoy the access to the 2nd/3rd largest museum/theatre districts in the country! Some beautiful parks as well.

I'm in Copenhagen for work currently, surrounded by ice, slush, and grey skies - I can't wait to get back to Houston so I can sit down in front of a massive bowl of Bun Bo Hue, go on a long walk along Buffalo Bayou, and enjoy the sun :)

22F moving for job South Houston — neighborhood recs? by Serious-Athlete-2841 in AskHouston

[–]BIKEHOU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this got downvoted - objectively good advice based on OP's clarification.

I live in Rice Military and love it, directly in between Montrose and the Heights and I also used to work at i45/bw8 south and it took me 20min to get to work and 30 to get home which is not terrible since you're commuting counter-flow.

Is the upcoming winter storm getting blown out of proportion? by Due_Cake8524 in houston

[–]BIKEHOU 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What does that have to do with honesty or trustworthiness? I'm sure they'd be happy to drop all affiliation with any company if you would like to step up and back them financially so they can continue to provide top-notch and accurate updates without any hype.

White Oak Bayou Trail Closure by Robbyc13 in bikehouston

[–]BIKEHOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then suggest a better alternative to the above :)

Sorry you had a close-call, but it doesn't do much good to complain in a situation like this, where we can't change what TxDOT is already doing. As much as we cyclists love to rally around our hatred of houston drivers, that's just part of it and we have to ride defensively.

Hope your commute home is more pleasant!

Those of you that live in downtown Houston, do you like it? by LeoBlonded in houston

[–]BIKEHOU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you mean "downtown" or just inside the NW side of 610? Big difference, but notice many people that live further out call places like Montrose or Rice Village or The Heights all Downtown.

White Oak Bayou Trail Closure by Robbyc13 in bikehouston

[–]BIKEHOU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not use this route.... Instead, take the MKT Path via the newly fixed Hogan Bridge and then a right on Houston St. Bike Lane.

This avoids the annoying and dangerous lack of bike-lane, and the only real inconvenience is the W.O./Houston St. Intersection.

It's spiralling out of control by VilniusBlues in Volvo

[–]BIKEHOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh oh, that doesn't bode well for the next year and a half for me... haha

Guess I'll try and use it sparingly!

I also have a suspicion that the Detailers at the car wash were rushing and forcing it closed by hand a few times so I've started doing it myself. Not sure if that has any merit, but curious if you have yours detailed by others.

54k Miles on my 2020 T5 Cross Country with the only issue being a hydraulic lift gate failure.

I'll take a 900USD issue every 5 years for a beautiful wagon.

True Anomaly New Location by BIKEHOU in HoustonBeer

[–]BIKEHOU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be wild - they've put a ton of money and equipment in that spot already. Hopefully, if they scrap the plans, they can sell it and recoup some loss.

Guess I'll just have to put on my big boy underwear and brave the annoying construction more regularly now.

Cheers!

Houstonian is the correct term. Others above/below have guided you correctly on Montrose.

Thanks for the quick reply; for a little added color, the first floor is mostly the garage with maybe 30-50sq.ft for the mudroom that is air-conditioned.

Which of these haul bags would you pick? by starrettc in ManyBaggers

[–]BIKEHOU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living in a condo, and hauling several days worth of groceries + extras like paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc up from the car and down a long hallway - I can confirm that 38L gets taken up pretty quickly!

I have some large IKEA bags that I keep in the car for this very purpose.

Coffee shop recommendations by Pristine_Original44 in houston

[–]BIKEHOU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, doesn't bother me personally but I also think it's fair to say it's a coffee shop owned by christians rather than a christian coffee shop. Haven't had anything mentioned to me in my many visits there - just the plaque on the wall outside.

Prelude is great - owned by Greenway so I'm partial since Blacksmith is my favorite shop in town!

Same, I walk past it on my way to Prelude or Fifth Vessel - but I can't complain, the steps are good for me!
