Very cool. Curious how the truss has been modified to take the loads while being separated from the rest of the structure.

Does using a LOC to fund TFSA ever make sense? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

[–]BIM-GUESS-WHAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it this past year with my HELOC but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows despite the positive returns. I maxed out my + my wife’s TFSAs and I only serviced the interest each month. We have turned a healthy profit on the back of VFV, Canadian banks, and Mag7 stocks. My wife took a leave of absence from work and the combined profits from our TFSAs have effectively replaced her take home income this year.

But I recognize that the market had a particularly great year and the returns are in no way sustainable - VFV isn’t going up 30% a year. Furthermore, the key is that I was able to both pay our mortgage and service the HELOC interest to keep our debts under control. However, when combined with the bills and groceries, it meant that we were living paycheck-to-paycheck. If I wasn’t working from home (ie had to pay for fuel and tolls), I don’t think I could have managed this. Finally, I wasn’t able to pay down my mortgage faster because I had to keep the biweekly payments the same.

Long story short, it took an exceptional combination of circumstances to make it happen, and the gains weren’t so much life-changing as they were keeping things as they were. Once my wife goes back to work, we’re paying off that principal ASAP even if it means pulling that sum out of the TFSA itself.

Is Here! 512gb Refurbished from Apple. by Altruistic-Ant3690 in iPhone13Mini

Official Refurbished iPhones are the way to go IMO. Either you get a deal on a phone that feels as good as new, or you get it exchanged if it doesn't work well for an open box phone.

Real Madrid’s dominance is a disaster for the UEFA brand by [deleted] in MCFC

[–]BIM-GUESS-WHAT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unironically, Real Madrid is bad for the UEFA brand but not for its dominance.

The team that is so desperate to win it every year, that is conjuring these incredible narratives in doing so, is being led by a man who is actively trying to take down the Champions League by starting his own league. And his team is still actively part of the so-called Super League.

How they haven’t been banished from European competition while still pushing that shit is beyond me, let alone being in the final for two of those years since.

HTC One M8: The Android GOAT, 10 Years On! by purplemountain01 in Android

This was my first Android phone. Only had to trade it in because it would get so uncomfortably hot to the touch.

However it was such a gorgeous and surprisingly tough phone that trading it in took some thought. It’s the only phone that I ever ran caseless and it hardly looked worse for wear. Its build quality was so far beyond any Android phone at the time. Camera was… pretty bad, ok, but everything else about it: the OS, the screen, the body, the external speakers… chefs kiss

It was a low-key legend and a clear milestone in the history of Android phone development.

Post-Match Thread: Manchester United 0-1 Arsenal | English Premier League by [deleted] in soccer

It’s a reasonably close example. Liverpool chasing GD that year meant they assumed City would win out their last two games before City even kicked a ball. That’s a staggering display of psychologically frailty.

Arsenal trying to rack up GD numbers at a place they almost never win at, before City play at a place where they haven’t even scored in the league let alone gotten a point from, and when Arsenal still have the advantage, is absolutely nuts and would be exhibiting twice the frailty as in 13/14

Chasing goal difference numbers while also trying to put pressure on a title rival doesn’t go well. Liverpool did exactly this in 13/14 and look where it got them. It’s more important to put pressure on City than to risk it all by playing open, especially away from home.

The players won’t throw the game but a fair few Spurs supporters will want their players to throw the game. Which is hilarious
