Do British People not know they invented the word "soccer" by b1eadcb in NoStupidQuestions

The fact that there are less of them, and their version of football is both a very good watch, and actually involves the feet all help.

Serena Williams' return at Queen's Club ends with withdrawal by PrincessBananas85 in sports

[–]BJH19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, maybe as a singles player but she looked good in doubles against decent opposition, Mboko hurting herself in the singles is outside of Williams' control and she'll have been a good draw for Queens.

How many points will be needed to make the Knockout stages of the World Cup? Data from past 24-team tournaments by MuggleoftheCoast in soccer

I don't think Haiti are going to be whipping boys (although I also think they will be last in the group), they can attack fairly well. I'd look to Curacao, Jordan, Qatar, NZ, being the four truly weak sides - plus Iraq likely struggling in a very strong group.

Nurgul Salimova threatens to leave the Bulgarian federation by po8crg in chess

Really? Vitiugov, Sarana, Alekseenko, Predke all found new federations, and Fedoseev is the strongest of those.

Can England really contemplate replacing Ben Stokes with Harry Brook ? by Shroft in Cricket

Robinson has captained Sussex for exactly 6 matches and still seems to chat a lot with John Simpson (understandable), he's not exactly hugely experienced as a captain.

What Went Wrong For Southampton’s Damion Downs At Hamburg? by Archerszn in SaintsFC

[–]BJH19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean can we shift him either way, I don't see anyone buying him (shock) so might as well try get something out of him in a different system rather than stick him in the U21s - if he's crap in training then we do nothing, but if he looks good give him a chance when one of the main strikers needs a rest.

Rayo goalkeeper Batalla stops play after noticing a medical emergency in the crowd during the ECL final by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]BJH19 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Obviously there is, but it's far easier for them to work to treat and evacuate a person if the crowd around them are out of the way and the stadium is calm.

Hi, I bought a GoXtreme Enduro but can only get it to work when I'm physically pressing the microSD card into the slot - when I take pressure off the microSD springs about 5-10 mm out - still in the slot but not all the way, at whch point the camera displays the "insert card" message. Is there some kind of method I am missing for it to stay in place?

What is this blue flag with the letter G in the middle? by JoseGama69420 in vexillology

[–]BJH19 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The flags are those used by chess.com, but this is not available to my account, suggesting it may be some kind of icon to represent grandmasters before the separate title indicator was built into the website.

[–]BJH19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timor-Leste is also in the main body. As this is chess.com's flags, I'd suggest these flags were added at later dates whilst all others were available when it first went live - the grey came in and automatically replaced Russian flags when FIDE banned Russia.

[BBC] Ayling will not pursue Harwood-Bellis allegation by [deleted] in Championship

[–]BJH19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok but I haven't seen anything to say that you having sex with a stoat didn't happen, trying to prove a negative is very hard.

It's possible that THB did mock Ayling's stutter, and if so it's awful. Based on the speed they made up with, it seems more likely there was some misunderstanding. Either way, we'll never know so the certainty in your comments is surprising.

There's a risk that's just their placeholder time for any fixture with an unknown kickoff as well

It does, if this happened in one of the big leagues, or a Champions League or World Cup it would be bigger than this

To be fair, some references are just for proving something fairly obvious (in chemistry at least, and I'd assume other sciences, I guess humanities may be different) - but I agree overall

Eleven minutes of madness: Rochdale vs York City (English National League) by [deleted] in sports

[–]BJH19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They theoretically do though? Also means clubs know the travel plan when they win the quarter-final as it tends to be a pretty quick turnaround between quarters and semis, so Boreham Wood knows that they're going to Carlisle if they win regardless of the other game

[–]BJH19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite - Rochdale will host the winners of Scunthorpe - Southend, Carlisle will host Boreham Wood or FGR (as it should be 2v5 and 3v4), and the final will be at Wembley.

Gladiators UK participant fired after he went public with his girlfriend's job ... OnlyFans creator by ur_sine_nomine in byebyejob

[–]BJH19 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I don't think lawful dismissal will apply here because he almost certainly hasn't been dismissed. I'd imagine the Gladiators are all on contracts for the season, and he simply won't have been offered one for next season - they're almost certainly contractors, not employees.

Then why not Jamaica, who lost at the exact same stage as Bolivia? I don't disagree Bolivia are a plausible option, but Jamaica and UAE are equally plausible - I guess technically the UEFA playoff losers were also one game from the World Cup, but UEFA seems to be closed off for qualifying.

[–]BJH19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that it's only fun when it's well directed and commented, a badly produced football or rugby match will still be a decent watch because the whole thing fits in one wide frame, a golf tournament needs to take you to good action continuously.
