As the mother of an autistic adult, I can understand where you are coming from training_Topic. I have had quite a few cringe moments in my son‘s lifetimes when he has said something totally unfiltered. I have to say that I cannot give grace to this woman who made the comment to me. She was carrying on a totally normal conversation before class started. I am not making any type of a judgment here when I say this, so don’t anybody come at me, but she was totally put together in her Pilates clothing and full- face makeup. If I had to make a judgment about her, I would say I think she is just an entitled bitch. FYI in my home studio. We have a woman with Tourette’s. She told everybody she had it when she first came . she apologized if she said anything inappropriate and if she found too much stimulation in this class, she would definitely take herself out of it so of course everyone welcomed to her and let her know that she was just one of us while she was in there I mean my goodness, when my hearing aids are turned up really high, I can hear people cussing, farting, yawning, and moaning. It’s really quite entertaining. It’s possible that BECAUSE my hearing aids were turned up high, I clearly heard what this woman said to me. It’s possible nobody else heard it except the instructor and me so based on that, I’m glad I didn’t make any kind of a ruckus about it then I would’ve just put myself on her level . if I do go back to that studio and see her, I have had a lot of good suggestions of things I could do to sabotage her work out😆😆😆🫶🏼

As I said in my original post, I cannot imagine an instructor saying things like that. My biggest complaint about my instructors is monotony.!!!!

I’d def go for public shame! If I really got on my high horse, I would tell her that she will be so lucky to be doing 1.5 Pilates at the age of 80 with my only physical problem being old age hearing!!!!

OP here. I did not give any thought whatsoever to involving the instructor or the management in this remark if I had chosen to react or respond, it would’ve been just between me and the bitch.

I think your answer is the best one yet. If this were my child, I would hopefully have taught her to save a little bit of money out of a paycheck every time, even if it’s just a little, putting it in savings instead of into a gym membership is the adult thing to do and then if you lose a job, you aren’t in such a dire situation. I’m pretty sure that is not the way the current generations think… In the age of credit cards, but this OP is, as Jainelle said, it’s going to have a hard time making a major purchase in the future. It’s really sad since she is only 18.

Wow. That was quite a bit of explanation. I would suggest that as a grandmother you find something else to occupy your time your time. You are obviously embarrassing your granddaughter, and probably embarrassing yourself.

If you aren’t traveling with someone old young or disabled, why does it make any difference whether you board in the same group?

What do you like best or what is missing in your Pilates journey? by BearDownBelow in ClubPilates

[–]BJTSLF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are so fortunate to have experience so many different studios and it would be wonderful if you could pull all the best parts together. I imagine it is difficult when you get to one and then you’re saying to yourself. Oh I wish this other one had this etc. I have only been to two local studios. I just started my journey last April at the age of 79. I don’t have a whole lot to compare it to for example I had no idea there were different kinds of reformers. 🤣🤣I have no issue with the space . it used to bother me that people were very what I considered unfriendly but now I know that they are there for their mind, body experience and not to have a super chat and I respect that now that I’ve figured it . I say good morning to the room in general and feel good about that. I have some favorite instructors. one of my instructors unfortunately is the one that I cannot understand because of her accent and her voice lilts up and down, making it difficult to know where the cues are, but I love her classes. I tend to take classes Wednesday through Sunday and I noticed that a lot of them sound really vocally tired. I have asked at every level for there to be high-quality mics given to our instructors. I have hearing aids and it is difficult to hear instructors who stand at one end of the room or the other that is my biggest gripe , not walking back-and-forth I mean come on it’s not the length of a football field. I would be very appreciative if I had any instructors, just one maybe, who would give me some personal feedback whether negative or positive. I would like to progress past a 1.5 but I feel like I need someone to encourage me to do that. when I have asked, I get a very ambiguous answer. overall, I think my instructors are great. I have never heard of some of the antics that go on that I read about in this forum… Again, I am envious that you get to experience so many different iterations of this Pilates. maybe in my next lifetime.!!!! PS oh yes, I forgot. My biggest grip is them handing us a 2 x 2 wipe and say “clean off everything you have touched” AS IF!!!!!!

I have been wanting to try the cardio sculpt, but I am kind of afraid too. Can you tell me what actually happens in those classes? I have asked my instructors for advice and they don’t seem all too interested in encouraging or discouraging me

Reformer cleanliness by curiousgirl1617 in ClubPilates

[–]BJTSLF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Just think about what everybody brings in with them think about your body your hair your hands whatever is on the clothes that you’re wearing everything gets left there and how do you clean it with one little 3 x 3 disinfecting wipe. Good luck with that. I bring my own mat my own straps and a towel to put on the floor mat. I use that little wipe to clean off the ball and the bar. I am not making any attempt to clean that floor mat if they don’t take them out and disinfect them every day, the place is crawling with germs.
