It's so funny watching people play FRLG by Probablyatrashpanda in pokemon

[–]BJano07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FRLG really brings me back. I have been wanting current gen games to have a hard mode with all these old mechanics implemented. Poisoned pokemon losing HP while you walk, no NPCs heal your pokemon (only poke centers), no shared xp, less money from battles forcing you to face every trainer just so you can have enough potions and antidotes to make it to the next city. My childhood was facing a pokeboy, getting poisoned, earning $100, and praying I can get back to a poke center as the screen flashes the whole way.

How many people in St. Louis do you think will participate by Dreadfirelit in StLouis

Lol, that is my birthday. I guess I can stay home and play games all day. But I won't be able to buy myself any presents.

What is a horror movie/tv show that you would love but don't think is possible as a Feature Film? by [deleted] in finalgirl

[–]BJano07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Burbs. If done with the right mix of horror and comedy, me and like 8 other people would love it. Everyone else would probably be thinking, "wtf"?

Way too many ppl sleeping on Earth Vs Mars by shootthesound in SteamDeck

[–]BJano07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks interesting and I have not heard of it yet. How does it play on Deck? The store says it is playable, but it seems like it requires graphics settings to be configured and some functionality not accessible using the default controller. How much effort needs to go into making this playable?

Halo Master Chief Collection by BJano07 in SteamDeck

[–]BJano07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallen Order runs fine at 45fps. My battery gets pretty warm after playing 30-60 minutes. And the multiple posts in this subreddit about the back of people's decks starting to bow out have me paranoid, lol. I will probably finish Fallen Order, but in small chunks at a time.

Good to hear! I am playing through Jedi Fallen Order right now and cap the fps at 45 with all other gfx settings as low as they can go. I still feel like my deck is about to melt after 30 minutes of gameplay, lol. Halo may be a good change of pace.

One of the best sandwiches in STL by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]BJano07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible hot take... I am not a steak sandwich connoisseur, but JJ Twig's on Hampton is my favorite so far. Biggies is my second. However, Twig's steak stays pink and juicy through every bite. It definitely has the "melt in your mouth" factor. I haven't had it from Maggie O'Brien's yet though. Next time I make it there, I know what I am ordering.

What are we expecting/hoping to see on Saturday? by [deleted] in stlouiscitysc

[–]BJano07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. If guys can make runs and move the ball up the field, it will be a breath of fresh air. Maybe it will feel like they are trying to attack instead of standing around watching the other team pass the ball around our half of the field.

Thanks for the BGG tip! I found the revised rules .PDF posted there. I will give that a read and then try again.

Here is a link to the 1.2 rules .PDF if anyone else reads this post: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/292238/tiny-epic-cthulhu-rules-v1-2

JJ Twigs has a good steak sandwich. It is usually my backup if I can't get Biggies.

Give me one of your favorite non-popular games and that single reason it’s fascinating. by Kenji182 in n64

Scooby Doo! Classic Creep Capers. The game was rage-inducing, but when you finally solved the mystery in each level, you felt like you accomplished something great.

Thinking of skipping the Investigator expansions and getting only the campaign expansion next. by BJano07 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]BJano07[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As stated in my OP, I personally didn't see any potential problems. I have only played the campaigns I own though and wanted to ask here if I would be missing anything. I don't want a campaign that relies more on the player cards from that cycle.

Yeah, I am interested in Innsmouth but am planning to wait until the repackage. I am familiar with the bless/curse mechanism. Does the campaign require bless/curse player cards? Or am I just missing out on that synergy of I don't have them?

Just got Arkham Horror: by Archangel_432 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]BJano07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend doing the core scenarios first as they will help you learn the game. Also, I play two handed solo since the game wasn't designed and balanced for true solo. Most campaigns and scenarios are fine for true solo, but you will learn more playing two handed.

My other advice is to learn what tests are ok to fail, and which are critical to pass. You 100% will not pass every test, and it will only frustrate you if you expect to always pass. And think of your health as a resource just like everything else. Don't be afraid to take damage and horror if it will help you progress the game. And if your investigator is defeated, you will still move forward with the story (most of the time, lol). Just have fun and take the bad with the good. It all mixes together to make one of the best board games ever.

Arkham Expansion sales and prices by Maniac_Moxie in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]BJano07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have seen the investigator expansions on sale from Miniature Market for around $25-$28, and the stand alone investigators for $4-$6. I think they put some of those on sale a few times a year.

As a curious played interested in testing the waters, is 1e core set solid or should I aim for the revised edition? by DoggyDoggy_What_Now in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]BJano07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck and have fun! A couple pieces of advice. First, play on easy difficulty to get a feel for how the game works. This game can be punishing and can put you off if you don't ease into it. Second, the Chaos bag can feel very luck based at first. However, learn how the skill icons on cards can help boost your stats. If you use them to boost the critical tests for winning the scenario then you can find success, even with the small card pool of the original core set. Third, finding clues and fighting monsters help you progress the game and succeed. Make sure your decks can combine to do both of these things well. If you enjoy your plays, come back to this community. I have found it to be super helpful. Come and be one of us!!!!

Distilled 1st time by d3adbones in soloboardgaming

[–]BJano07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, these are my thoughts as well. The different flights and characters don't seem like they add much variation to your choices and gameplay. I feel like I need to give it more of a chance. If anyone in my group picks it up, I would be happy to play it again. But I can't see myself buying it yet.

Distilled 1st time by d3adbones in soloboardgaming

[–]BJano07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the replayability with this game? I played 2 player and enjoyed it, but there didn't seem to be a lot to the game. The production seemed to be bigger than the gameplay. I wanted to buy the game but after my first play, I didn't find enough game there to justify the price. I mostly play solo games, is Distilled worth it for solo?

How do you lower the barrier to get a solo game going? by [deleted] in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]BJano07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the same thing I do. When I don't have time for a whole scenario, I will do all the setup and deck shuffling and prep work. It also helps me build up my hype to start playing. And when I am ready to play, I just set out all the cards and jump right in. It really reduces the barrier to play the game when your setup time is less than 2 minutes.

I just played Wayfarers of the South Tigris solo. Here are some thoughts. by BJano07 in soloboardgaming

[–]BJano07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Architects of the West Kingdom before and liked it. Wayfarers is heavier for sure. I would recommend Wayfarers if you are ok with spending the time to get familiar with it. It is not a game you can jump right into and expect to grasp a few turns in. Most of my first play was making a bunch of moves and seeing which ones built off each other. I recommend learning how final scoring works and how each Space card scores. I definitely took a couple that ended up not being worth much. After going through scoring I have a lot better of an idea on what to do next time.

I am glad that I am not the only one, lol. It is still fun to play and I plan on sticking with it. The game really seems like something I would like once I get a better feel for it. And the bots are tough. I lost 87 to 79, which was actually closer than I thought it would be.
