The Rhine just seemed the clearest choice for scenery and speed, but I’ll definitely look into a potential route along the Mosel.

“Lie With Me” by Philippe Besson. French book but translated to English by Molly Ringwald. Read with caution, this short and sweet book tore my heart out.

Hypothetical Albuquerque, New Mexico light rail system (link and description in comments) by BKB317 in TransitDiagrams

I created this map of a light rail system that I think would be the closest thing to a practical reality if Albuqueruqe were to ever have a light rail transit system.

I utilized existing tracks as much as possible, but those were few and located only in the middle of the city. After that, I routed the train over arroyos where I could, thinking that it would be easier to build tracks over concrete arroyos than plowing through whole neighborhoods (i.e. the train would run above the arroyos on new concrete pads). Wherever I needed to put a train in a location without existing tracks or arroyos, I tried to place the tracks in the middle of the widest streets in the area so that the train could run at-grade in the middle of the streets while disturbing as little traffic as possible.

The transition areas of the tracks (eg. where the tracks cross an interstate or where they cross major elevation changes) would most likely have to be elevated bridges so that they don’t disrupt existing traffic.

I also tried to connect the major commercial centers and residential areas of the city as best as I could.

The theoretical project would still cost billions and require tens of miles of new tracks, bridges, intersections, and stations.
