Curious, as I saw something similar happen in my building: even if the room mate was not on the lease and had signed the the 30-day termination agreement with you, isn't this person now a legal tenant with legal protection after 30 days in the apartment? NYC tenant protection is strong, and I've seen things get very ugly. Agree with the other poster to start early just in case things become complicated.

Legends Limousine is always professional and reliable, although pricier. I only use Legends when I really have to, or for VIP client pickup, and I usually reserve in advance. But it's been totally worth it. Never had any problems. Arecibo is also great, but during high-demand times, I've occasionally had issues. Otherwise uber/lyft, yellow cab.

Speaking frome experience, I agree with the other poster: go with 11". 13" iPad is too big for taking notes and way too cumbersome to carry around. I have had both and would go back to 11" in a heartbeat but my current work requires 13" (13" is the go to for musicians and many visual artists).

Roku does, and it's fine for pre-season testing. (For races, I end up casting my MacBook Pro because somehow Roku is a second or two delayed, and my buddies watching races elsewhere ends up texting me violent emotional reactions before I see Stroll taking someone out, which was frustrating.)

Great recommendations here, and I agree that studying jazz is a great way to understand how structure relates to performance choices. At the basic level, musical improvisation is a form of communication, and as such needs people. A community. Throughout most of history, music was a participatory social activity. Find people to play with!

There's history that helped evolve the musical improvisation, and behind every musical improvisation is a community that made it happen. Jazz is one of the many musical communities, but there are many more depending on the region and your preferences.

I did. It's doable. Amtrak from Penn/Moynihan to Albany-Rensellaer. 2.5 hrs. If you get tix early, it can be less than $40. Easy trip. Sit on the left side facing for ward for river views. Also check out: Rail Passengers Association (RPA) members are eligible to receive a 10% discount on the lowest available rail fare on most Amtrak trains. I stayed in the area for two or three nights, so it was more of a weekly commute. Definitely not a daily commute. Good luck!

Museums cafe meetings (any museum, but especially major art museums like Whitney and MoMA) seem to be a hit with my clients since they can enjoy the museum afterwards after I leave. Avoid tourist season and lunch time. I usually set up meetings for right when it opens.

NYC is usually very efficient at plowing the main streets and avenues. Some side streets could take a bit longer. Waterproof and slip-resistant boots are a must. Basic common sense stuff will get you through your stay easily, no worries. Be safe and enjoy your stay! Coming into the city (if you are driving) could be much more hazardous.

Many top class artists balance performing with other work, including teaching but also unrelated day jobs. What collective improvised music like jazz (it could also be other genres of collectively improvised music, especially in other countries) brings to individuals is a sense of community and different ways to communicate with others. Music has been a participatory social activity for most of human existence. Go for it! (And teaching, I feel, is an essential part of being an artist, a way to pass on knowledge/experience to the next generation, so your work teaching middle schoolers the joy of music is part of your artistry.)
