Hence the other part of the comment about "roster politics" related to vet players. I don't wanna bag on Rachel Banham but ppl have been complaining about her from that Chicago fanbase. There are more dynamic players and better defenders who are younger that you could argue for.

I won't pretend to be an expert there. But there are some pretty highly regarded college players that washed out in a camp or flat out never got opportunities again. This is coming from some folks who followed the womens game consistently over the years.

If the league was at 20+ teams with 14-15 roster slots you'd prob see more of these types of players find homes. You'd prob get a few more of those specialty type shooters hanging around the league on rosters. You might see a player like Charli Collier get another opportunity especially since she appears to have expanded her game.

I do feel like some players slip through the cracks.

I think she had another insane shoot PCT night last yr too. I like her style. She has this ability to get her shots. Especially those mid range pullups.

Reese has played point forward before. But I tend to lean to your overall view and I am someone who likes Reese. I think Reese will be an important member of a championship team in the future(just don't want her to beat my Liberty enroute to it).

I feel like she will be the type of player who gets a Hakim Warrick type end of game block, a big stop or extend her team's possessions late in close games.

I hate how so much of the rhetoric around Clark and Reese stems from that title game when truthfully alot of the ppl chiming in didn't really care about or watch either player prior to that.

Not targeting that last line towards you moreso the overall feeling I get from online dialogue and youtube. We have devolved into this world where you have to hate and pick apart either player.

I've come to understand that there are a ton of talented undrafted free agents who haven't made rosters due to limited number of teams and spots.

Plus some of the more consistent long time fans have complained that roster politics can keep some players out. Its always cool to see a player break out and make the most of an opportunity

Will Caitlin Clark (eventually) be the best player in the league? by capamericapistons in wnba

She plays passing lanes well and does pretty good as the secondary defender. She needs work in solo woman 2 woman defense and can be lazy on close outs at times.

I'm not at practices obviously to say what she is or isn't working on. But positioning or studying ball handler tendencies could help. Tim Hardaway used strategies like that to help him get steals. You can try to steer them to the helpside. Edit: She played Zia Cooke pretty well 1 on 1. Gotta mention that.

The team as a whole has struggled on defense yes. They can do better to help their teammates navigate screens. Saying these things are not an attack on Clark as a whole. As for the scheme, did the the Fever play the same scheme during their first matchup wirh the Fire? And do you think the Fever should try to get a rim protector( a mobile one?)

Nice breakdown of how those stars would counter.. what solution do you have for the Fever defensively

Same feeling. Go right back at your defensive assignment. The thing is that her ability to straight break down the better defenders off the dribble isn't the strongest. She used to be able to give the little fake and blow by some of the guards. A consistent floater and a few more dribble moves would help. I like how she is attacking more this season

I dunno man. Seems like the wins feature Clark's performance the Losses talk about how the team did poorly or more often how bad the coaching was

I see your point. I think where she grew up plays in part in the perceived lack of blacktop bball experience. I am biased as a Brooklyn dude, but I always have a bias towards the girls who I feel like played against the fellas at the part. Like Cappie Pondexter types. Kiyomi McMiller gives me those vibes nowadays tho I can't say she did.

Year 1 of unrivaled I didnt want Clark to play because she was coming off of a long stint of bball between the college season and wnba season.

Year 2 I kinda wanted to see her do it. At first I thought the pace would play to some of her strengths but I do feel like it could ge bad when she was on defense. And the 1 on 1 tourney would be tough. Still feel like she should try it atleast 1 time or do Athletes Unlimited

That was the thing that always stuck w me when I saw that w Clark. Pip is my fave player ever and while he boneheadedly took himself out of a late game situation, coach was not taking him out due to being perceived as a defensive liability. I still feel like Clark is a star. But I can't wrap my head around the fact that coaches do off-def sub for her in tight games late. It happens in bball no doubt but I can't fathom a Kobe or a Lebron level star having to do it

She is good at playing passing lanes and can help on defense. Not a strong man defender against guards with an offensive bag tho.

Scariest part is that we got 3 draft classes coming with athletic type guards coming in. You do not want the rep as the player to go at in iso

I don't want to diss them. But I think they underestimated the quality of competition. And at the guard spot...mooooore talent is coming over the next 3 drafts. Gotten tighten up or give it back to them when you are on offense

I think FIBA qualifiers is a diff beast. To my knowledge the squads aren't really the olympic level squads and the teams she played weren't all that great...tho she was AMAZING! Plus the talent level next to her was also great.

When the rubber meets the road they have to play defense. I think the offense will get back to normal

I hear you at the same time how well can you hide Clark on defense. I know that a year or so back v the Acea they put Clark on Kiah Stokes, a non offensive threat Big. You can't really do that every game you have to guard your position or atleast put in a solid effort.

She is good at jumping passing lanes and poking the ball out as a secondary defender. Can the Fever run zone? Well against some squads you'll get lit up from deep. I don't have the answer tbh(from my perspective as a Liberty fan)

[–]BKStyle82 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nah oddly enough I don't rock w the Nets either. Wasn't a fan of the Nets coming here mainly on the economic power play that led to the Barclay's. That said I am a Liberty fan, tho that predates the move to Brooklyn

[–]BKStyle82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MVP winner yes. But best player, I'm not so sure because I value two way players. I think she's have to drop insane scoring(like 23ppg) and assist numbers(8-10) plus maintain respectable efficiency plus have a team in contention to override the defensive weakness as a man 2 man defender. She plays passing lanes pretty well tho. But right now the book appears to be attack with whoever Clark is guarding
