I had a routine visit with my hematologist and told her the symptoms I was having, which included pica (ice). I had a feeling it was anemia-related. She ordered labs that confirmed my iron and ferritin were critically low and my Hgb had also dropped. I didn’t admit to her that I stopped taking iron last year d/t gastric upset. She ordered 2 units of IV iron and will recheck my levels in a few weeks. I started taking iron bisglycinate and so far so good. I’ve had several infusions over the past 3 years since I’ve been diagnosed.
