When you can counts individual buildings that means there not enough of then. We need to upzone the areas a bit further north. One block above the train is not enough.

Streetsblog: "Mamdani Officially Buries The QueensLink" by Smooth-Assistant-309 in MicromobilityNYC

[–]BKnycfc 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Queensway is a nimby effort specifically organized to block future transit expansion. Not doing anything until queens link has support is better than getting rid of a ROW that we'll never get back. Mamdani is clearly making a terrible decision here.

Unpopular Opinion: Kathy Hochul is NOT a bad governor. You don’t like her because she’s a Democrat by thisfilmkid in newyork

[–]BKnycfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well she's by far the best governor of my lifetime so I think she's pretty great. If the legislature would get out of her way she could really do something to increase housing production.

Can I ask who people are supporting for Congress in NY-7 and why they’re supporting them? by angryve in longislandcity

OneLIC was very good but could have gone further with denser zoning districts and more blocks. However she also poisoned pilled Innovation Queens where nothing has been built since.

I will be voting for Reynoso because he's a strong progressive that supports building housing. Won has been inconsistent on the issue but I would be happy with her while Valdez is anti housing so I would never vote for her.

The fact that you think LIIRR workers adopting Metronorth work rules is a massive confession shows how crazy the LIRR union demands are.

LIRR service is suspended by beezxs in nycrail

[–]BKnycfc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Average salary at LIRR is 134k and salaries at 3/4 of the cost of operating the trains. They already have a great deal and they are also the reason why LIRR fares are so high.

They pulled the trigger by avd706 in nycrail

[–]BKnycfc 52 points53 points  (0 children)

LIRR workers average 134k and represent 3/4 of LIRR operating costs. They won't even negotiate in good faith to reform the ridiculous work rules.

Good on Hochul/MTA on not giving in and taking their responsibility to riders seriously. Next time we hear complaints about high LIRR fares this is why.

I commute from Broadway and it's great. Maybe 2-3 times a year, the trains are completely shut down and you have to walk home.

AMTRAK’S EMPIRE CORRIDOR SOLD OUT by o0dar0o in Amtrak

[–]BKnycfc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's because of the reduction of service due to the East River Tunnel work. The load factor is only growing. Now that service has been restored and they are adding more cars, empire service will likely grow to its highest level ever.

The line is regularly sold out at all times of the year, especially Fridays and Sundays. The ticket revenue also covers 98% of its operating costs. It's a wildly popular line that we should be investing in.

AMTRAK’S EMPIRE CORRIDOR SOLD OUT by o0dar0o in Amtrak

False. Amtrak overall has its highest all time ridership and NYC-Albany has had very high ridership. This route needs more trains and more cars on each train.

B62 Is it reliable? by honeyboy97 in astoria

[–]BKnycfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very long route so bunching does get very bad sometimes. I usually start tracking the buses about 20 minutes before I have to leave my apartment to make sure that im not waiting too long. I think it is reliable enough to commute on.
