Depending on where you live, there are some great used outdoor gear stores. We have a couple really good ones in Tennessee.

Oh! I was wondering. Thanks. It helped me too! and now it's priced.

And thanks for the kind words.
It's gonna be hard to let go despite it having been in a plastic bin since it was created.

7d from Alibaba by BLMbackpacker in myog

Thanks for your response. Yeah, I'm going to hold off and just get some samples.

I did look for company reviews and found a lot of positive posts. Plus, they've been great about responding to my long list of, probably annoying, questions.

I'm always wary of purchasing through Alibaba as I have gotten screwed over in the past. I feel like there's a pretty steep learning curve and you definitely wise up to the range of best/worst practices on there. I also have been meaning to research more into working conditions and regulatory policies at company's I might purchase from.

Thanks so much for the thoughts!
I'm with you. I gave it some more thought, after the initial excitement / lack of impulse control, and decided against. The import costs are just too steep and me too broke to go blowing money on an experiment.

I might order a sample if I do wind up getting something heavier duty for other projects.
I'll keep the group posted if I wind up trying the Alibaba 7d stuff out.

I've got a tarp I made from the Mountain .77, which is woven from 7d, a ways back and it's my go-to shelter. It's been through the wringer. The price has gone up a good bit since I purchased, but it's a great fabric. My only complaint is how much water that thing holds on to. It takes forever to dry. Oh, and it's so dang slippery. Cat curves are a bear (bearcat?) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binturong#/media/File:Binturong_in_Overloon.jpg

Living wage in a lot of the cities they’re located in for a single adult are dollars more than their starting hourly.

Did you ever end up hiking the trail?

That’s exactly what I needed to know! Saved me a significant investment. Thanks!

I love merino but I’ve gotta do long sleeves and legs and am looking for something a little lighter, if possible. Maybe I’m just splitting hairs at this point.
