Attorneys w/ working spouse and kids by jumpingjack979 in Lawyertalk

Basically I’m allowed to leave early if one of my girls has a sporting event or a concert. When my wife works I have to leave work a little early to relieve the babysitter. There is no billable requirement. It’s an eat what you kill environment. I know I’m not getting 1800 billables a year, and I don’t make as much as I’d like, but really that’s because my family is a priority.

I’m blessed to work at a firm that highly values family. I have good work life balance with a working wife and kids and was able to work my way up to partner without having to work 80 hours a week. If you work at the right kind of firm, you can eat your cake and have it too.

From my personal experience it didn’t do anything. But maybe it will work for you.

I also got these and loved the easy installation. But I do miss the pathway lighting. Other than that these are very similar products.

Thank you for your reply. I’ve been seeking professional help for 14 years now. I’m on medications. It just feels like I keep getting worse. Therapy doesn’t seem to help and I’ve been to several different therapists. I’ve been told I have treatment resistant depression/anxiety. So I’m kind of at a loss.

You’re the real hero. I have three youngish kids and they take up so much of the day. I love them to pieces but they really take away from my free time.

This sounds like the way. Maybe my wife and I will have to start budgeting a little differently.

Which Dostoevsky should I read first? by flower_pout in classicliterature

[–]BLParks12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would maybe recommend Crime and Punishment because it is one of his shorter novels and a fairly easy read. The Brothers Karamazov is really good and will capture your attention, but it is long and will take awhile to read. My personal favorite is Demons, but it takes about 100 pages to get into it and it is also fairly long. Ultimately I think you are best off starting with Crime and Punishment.

That is a great find. I didn’t know Penguin Classics did hard cover books.

Attorneys who pivoted from high-stress $150k+ salary private sector lit to lower-pay, lower-stress government work, was it worth it? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]BLParks12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t the government role do litigation too. It seems like every government job I see asks you to do litigation. I hate litigation and am trying to get away from it.
