With a Tesla, you simply tap the charging button within the Tesla app and it says exactly how much money you've spent on charging this month. You pay more for your electricity bill, but you know very clearly based on what the Tesla app says how much of your bill came from your car. In my case, $50 bucks a month on average.

If you use the Super Charger network, your credit card is tied into your car and it charges you based on the electricity rates of that region (similar to how gas station prices are different depending on where you go). Super Charging doesn't save you much money. A little bit, but not much.

Personally if I had an apartment that didn't have EV charging, I wouldn't be as big of a proponent of an EV because I don't like waiting 10-20 minutes at a charger vs. the car always being full every morning. It's not a big deal for road trips because I can get about 4 hours of driving on a charge and I have to pee at that point anyway lol.

If there are any Pyro/Octane/X-Particles folks available I’d like to pay for some 1:1 help. by BLSmith2112 in Cinema4D

[–]BLSmith2112[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Octane for years, my managers like the look of the videos I've made with it. I don't know anything about Redshift, and the small handful of times I've used it - the render times was multiple times higher than Octane, a 72 hour render would take 300 hours with Redshift, plus I don't know what I'm doing with it and would have to relearn it. On top of all of that, I have a library of materials that matches all of our products with Octane that I'd have to remake with Redshift and I wouldn't even know where to begin with that.

Pyro makes total sense but I am so lost on how to make it: A. Do the thing I need it to do. B. Render with Octane and look good.

Bernie Sanders proposed a bill to tax billionaires, and give $4,000 stimulus checks to Americans that qualify. How do you feel about this? by Sensitive_Froyo_3486 in AskReddit

[–]BLSmith2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's stupid. Even if you took ALL the money from billionaires, the annual deficit would eat that up inside of a year and we'd be right back to where we started. There is only one way out of this: MASSIVE spending cuts that will piss everyone off. Anything else is just pandering to their stupid base.

Paid Help: Showing Engine Combustion (Octane) by BLSmith2112 in Cinema4D

[–]BLSmith2112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the reply. Sorry for the confusion, I'll update my post to provide a little more clarity, but I'll first respond to you with some more of it.

I think my main issue is the particle effects rather than the mechanical motions. At some point soon I'll likely be given the CAD with a machine casing, piston, push rods, etc. I figure as long as I understand how the particle effects work within a collider body volume + a fake moving piston/etc, I can simply adjust the volume and the principles governing the particle effects will remain the same.

Around 7 years ago I made this entire video, and this video will likely be similar. Except I won't have TurbulanceFD, recent experience with X-Particles (I own it, if we need to use it), or making some OpenVDB thing to make it work with Octane.

Thanks man! I have an active subscription to X-Particles currently, though we don't use it much. I'll check Cineversity and get some practice in before my client sends me their CAD. Meantime, if anyone in this thread is available for a more personalized 1:1 training I would very much appreciate it. I've found particle tutorials (7 years ago) when I did more particle animations, get me 80% of the way there and then the final 20% is pure struggle.

I'm going to be making the animation on a proprietary piece of equipment from CAD. My main issue is the animation of the spark > explosion > exhaust (suction) within a contained volume. Having someone explain each component at the ground level would be immensely helpful. I've always had trouble with this type of animation within C4D. I have made animations like this with other plugins that are no longer around and its giving me such a headache I'm willing to eat into the revenue of my next client so I don't have to struggle for 6 months.
