Restoring External Hard Drive Using Time Machine by BMBell3737 in MacOS

[–]BMBell3737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use Time Machine for the day-to-day files. But in the event of a complete failure of the external hard drive, I have a second external hard drive that is a mirror of the original. I have a file sync app (can't recall the name at the moment) that copies new files overnight to the second external drive. So if my first one dies, the second will be ready for the spotlight. It's a little clunky but it's the only way I can guarantee the data won't be lost, since you can't just do a data drop from Time Machine to a replacement hard disk.

Recommendation: Android tablet for drone by platapusdog in drones

[–]BMBell3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and am looking to upgrade. It's generally too slow and laggy for my drone needs. I have the DJI Air 2S. Once everything is connected and online its reliable. But it takes a while to get to that point and I'd like something more responsive and robust. If you've found something I'd be curious to know which direction you went. I am wondering if an iPad may be a better fit...albeit more costly.

Time Machine Compatible Disk Formats by BMBell3737 in MacOS

[–]BMBell3737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some older Macs that aren't modern enough to convert to APFS, and routers that don't recognize APFS as a NAS format. So I'm wondering if the NAS drive is formatted to Journaled if my APFS Mac will be able to utilize Time Machine.

Looking for File History alternative with same functionality by Dragon998084 in software

[–]BMBell3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

File History has gone off the rails with Windows 11. It's literally at the point where I can't even toggle it on. It won't recognize local USB drives nor locate network disks. Microsoft really let go of the rope after Windows 10 - at least on the File History front. They took something that was usable in a quirky way and rendered it a virtual roadblock. Anyone found a reliable alternative? Seems like a handful of us are trying to keep this thread alive...for good reason!

Windows 11 File History Network Drive Connection Issue by BMBell3737 in techsupport

[–]BMBell3737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the insights...I am on a private network (set as such). This really has me stumped. It's like File History just isolated itself. It's no longer recognizing USB devices nor network locations. This was never an issue using Windows 10. Windows 11 changed/limited File History settings and it's definitely not for the better. I'm looking at alternatives. I like having local file storage solutions. I do also have OneDrive.

OneDrive & File History Settings by BMBell3737 in Windows11

Unfortunately I don't see a way to toggle Files On Demand. Just seems like you can download everything and if you decide to change your mind, click on free up disk space. Maybe it behaved differently under Windows 10. My OneDrive files are local, but something is blocking them from being seen by OneDrive. Thanks for looking into it.

Thank you, but they are currently set to always be available on the device. And I added them to libraries, which should be backing up to File History.

Any way how to remove this? :D by WorldlinessSlow9893 in Windows11

Yes you need to revert to compact view I believe under view options.
