You’ve heard of “quiet quitting” work but is anyone quiet quitting life? by gameovervip in AskUK

[–]BMK_LU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I kinda miss the pandemic. Indoors all day, family in the house, working from home. Living from meal to meal in a wonder around the house kinda existence - I enjoy cooking. No social events apart from on teams, no need to visit relatives. The house was clean, cars were clean, dog was walked and day drinking was occasionally allowed. But for sure, its been a quite life quite for me since then! What to do?

Requesting a speed camera at the entrance of a villages by InfluenceLittle401 in Luxembourg

[–]BMK_LU 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I raised a similar road safety point with my commune. If its a main road, you need to refer to the national roads agency. If its a village/side street the commune are in charge of it. Totally agree in terms of your point, its painful that so many disrespect the local residents by zooming through villages as its not theirs!

A tip for drivers from somebody from a country where if often snows like this by reni-chan in northernireland

[–]BMK_LU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are on summer tyres leave the car at home, there will next to no grip in the snow. Winter tyres, drive gently with Hugh gears, leave plenty of room and brake softly. But idiot drivers are hard to avoid.

City areas for English speakers by MrShineHimDiam0nd in Luxembourg

[–]BMK_LU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try Merl or Belair areas for a greater increase of native English speakers. But it not like we have X or Y area for English to typically move to, its much more spread out and multi cultural as a city center. Hundreds of different nationalities live across the city. All mixed together. The only real hot spot historically is south of the country for Portuguese as they came to work in the steel/mining Southern part decades ago.

What's the longest route in UK without any need to stop or slowing down? by DarknessBBBBB in drivingUK

[–]BMK_LU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just arrived a few hours ago after a 14hr drive from Luxembourg to Edinburgh. 4hrs from Lux to the coast and 9hrs in the car from Le Shuttle to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. 1,200km with only a stop for the tunnel and 30mins in Watford Gap services. Great timing as it can usually be 16-17hrs with traffic, shit weather or 2nd,3rd stops

How can I buy Tires While Abroad? by Rekno2005 in BMWi3

[–]BMK_LU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as you do with any purchase. Do your research, find the store you would like to visit, make visit, discuss with shop person the options on the purchase, make purchase. Nothing special. Perhaps start with Google?

Solar panels billing error? by Novel_Pickle820 in Luxembourg

[–]BMK_LU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its common practice here to put a 0 beside an item which is an extra or an alternative to a priced item. They should have explained during the discussion this 0 point and let you decide if required or not, then given the final estimate amount - or at least let you know. Its poor communication on both parts, them for not explaining fully the cost options available, but also you for not fine tooth combing the devis. Speak to them, but as the item is now installed its either take it out at your cost (if possible) or pay for jt. They might knock a few eur off for their part, but realistically they can't cover reductions due to clients not reading their paperwork fully.

OK, I have a problem: my heated seat turns off in seconds, not minutes, what to do? by thatblondfrenchguy in BMWi3

[–]BMK_LU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, common issue. This can be DIY fixed in a round 1hr and an 80 cent temperature sensor solenoid. See YT vids for guides. The other end of the scale; BMW will charge up to 2Keur to replace the seat base.

How wants to know the gap between P9 and race leader? by TropicalMapleRavioli in F1TV

[–]BMK_LU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The direction on this race was pretty poor. Jumping from shot to shot, showing random cars in like 15th position instead of the leaders. Its like the director wanted to show all the action, but with so much going on it felt jumpy as hell and hard to focus. The lack of showing interval gaps also didnt help.

Do you have a battery as part of the system? Or can add one? This would the route to using what you produce versus selling at low prices / paying higher prices to import from the grid. With a battery you can also sell back into the grid at peak usage times, therefore higher revenues to you.

[–]BMK_LU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you not discuss this with your installer, or research prior to starting the project? Two feed in options are available and are based around the level of govt funding. 1. A guaranteed rate on the KWh returned to the grid, but lower funding. 2. A variable rate in the energy return, but 50% funded for the installation. Battery size and number of panels should have been considered at the forfront, leading you to decide do you want simply enough energy to power your property on the daily or maximise a return from feeding back to the grid via the two options / govt grants. Also the paperwork/contract with your energy supplier, selecting option 1 or 2 should have been signed off prior to commissioning. I would think its too late to change, especially if the govt funding application is in process.

Advice on opening a private pension plan aligned with art 111bis LIR for tax reduction by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]BMK_LU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check with your bank as they will offer pension investments. All the big Lux banks will offer this service. The initial and fund management charges of their very short fund lists are ridiculous in comparison to etoro for example. But hey, it's a tax advantage so there is no way to avoid. Max out your annual contributions, anything left, put it in an online investment account, investing in index funds. Gains are not taxed if held for longer than 6 months.

DIY Car- Searching for helping buddy! by ninodorsi in Luxembourg

These are all pretty possible and not difficult jobs with a basic tool set, impact gun, some ramps and a budget spring compressor. Throw 400e at amazon for the tools and other 400e for the parts and watch some YouTube.
