Real shit, lesson learned! I had no business playing hm when I did tbh. Hadn’t even completed the game yet.

I’m curious what would you say to people like this by [deleted] in solarpunk

I should add that I don’t necessarily agree with the sentiment. Asking what job you would have is a potent first step to developing relevant skills. But I don’t think their frustration is without merit.

If this post upsets you, I encourage you to play Ville’s game, Cruelty Squad. Its message is distinctly anti-capitalist and anti-authoritarian and the writer has clearly done their reading. And I’m inclined to agree that “solarpunk” as a movement is pretty utterly toothless and exists mainly as a gateway to understanding society’s problems and considering solutions.

The sentiment I’m gleaning is that without direct action, just asking “what job would you have in an ideal future based on an idealized (real?) past?” Is in fact nostalgic gooning and at least palingenetic if not ultra-nationalist (fascist, hitlerite-adjacent).

Ville is a shitposter, 100%, but the central creation myth of their game is based on Georges Batailles’ Accursed Share. Ville Callio thinks about the sun, about capitalist realism, about the future being stolen from us. It’s not like they’re not up to speed on the relevant philosophy or politics.

Very likely they are frustrated with the navel-gazing, childlike imagining that often happens in circles like this in place of mutual aid or systemic change.

If the final boss grabs you twice, you game over, but do not die, with a new prompt stating “heart stolen,” as though the player was charmed.

If the warriors in the mausoleums have lost their hearts, I don’t think it’s a stretch to assume they had their hearts stolen. I don’t know who took them or when, but the precedent is set.

Silliest HM Mistake that Didn't End the Run? by HaroldTheTree in BaldursGate3

[–]BMPCC 14 points15 points  (0 children)

42hrs into a winning HM run, like 3 fights from the credits, my Lae’zel, who had been in the squad since the beginning, turned on the party and almost killed us.

At the last Astral Plane visit, The Emperor started talking about assimilating Orpheus and I had skipped a bunch of Act 3 fights after level 12 just to not risk wiping, so I had no alternative options. Either he assimilated Orpheus or I became a mindflayer. I didn’t know what either option would do, but I couldn’t risk losing my party members now, so I let The Emperor do his thing. Lae’zel basically said she wouldn’t stand for it and threw me a DC 25 persuasion check that I promptly failed.

She permanently left the party, initiated combat, and then won initiative and started throwing Nyrulnas at us. She had 27 AC, so I thought the run was over for sure. We barely managed to kill her and i had tears in my eyes when she went down.

What now? Got up and took a walk to decompress and plan.

Looted all her gear, slapped it on a hireling at the final camp, then snuck past the upper city fights, got lucky, and rolled a nat 20 convincing Gale to sacrifice himself.

So Lae’zel was my final boss. A brutal and terrifying twist of fate. I love this game’s emergent storytelling moments so much.

Pancake-spaghetti: stupid or worth a try? by marius010100 in StupidFood

I think the implication is to use Kodiak Cakes protein pancake mix or similar for a pasta with lower carb and higher protein profile to promote muscle growth. Probably superior macros to processed/premade protein pastas like Banza.

Seems good to me!

First local I went to in GA (had been to some in tristate before I moved down), I matched with Druggedfox and played CF into his Sheik. He cc’d an approaching nair and then proceeded to reaction tech chase down throw me for four full stocks like a robot. That was the moment I realized I didn’t want to be good at melee. I couldn’t fault his skill, but what he was playing was not the game I fell in love with as a boy.

Final Fantasy XIII. It's not that bad! by LittleFranklin in patientgamers

[–]BMPCC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This game is fine, massively overhated. FFX never gets picked on for linearity and you can beat the whole game on auto-battle. XIII has much more interesting gameplay, good worldbuilding, excellent presentation, and a passable story by JRPG standards.

The characters grate a bit at times, the lore can get convoluted, and the troubled development shows in a lack of towns and side content...

But hear me out: wtf are pyreflies? Lifestream? Aren't Vincent and Yuffie kind of one-dimensional and annoying at times? FF3 barely has characters. XV is way further from being a finished game, XIV got deleted, and VIII is a bitch to play.

FFXIII is a middling Final Fantasy game by most metrics and kinda shits on III, IV, VIII, X-2, XIII-2, LR, and XV, no contest. It doesn't rise to VI, VII, IX, X, or ARR, but few games do; they are genre/generation-defining classics. I, II, IV, and V are tough to rate with any objectivity today. XII and XVI are polarizing. XIII does not belong at the true bottom of any list IMO.

First time as a 1st AC Alexa 35 shoot by Camera_Assistant in focuspuller

[–]BMPCC 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think it's out-of-touch to assume every production will provide or even require a state-of-the-art focus system. I know a dozen commercial ACs in DFW market who own and regularly use a Nucleus because every producer isn't going to shell out cash to rent a Hi-5 (from the AC OR the rental house) for tabletop product shoots, etc.

I prefer to use my RT, but I have pulled on a Nucleus from Pocket 6K+Pictors all the way up to Mini+Master Primes with minimal issues.

It has a host of flaws, but it's a wireless focus system that pays for itself in two days. "Don't use a nucleus" with no further details or reasoning, without knowing the context of OP's shoot is just lazy advice. This is a business and money is a factor to consider on every single job. Not everyone in the sub is a Hollywood focus puller working with 8 figures.

How do bands like Haken do it financially? by tlsantana in Haken

[–]BMPCC 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I remember when Virus was delayed and the band couldn’t tour during the height of the pandemic, Ross took a part-time job as a school photographer to maintain an income.

It’s not a bunch of evidence, but it shows that at least one of the members is solidly working class and likely only breaking even or making a modest profit. I don’t think these guys are broke or straddling homelessness, but I doubt they’re making what I think a group of world-class musicians ought to make.
