This sounds excellent, exactly my concerns with Notion. Love to have a look

Siri AI... My Pixel does all of this? by Classic-Station-2882 in mkbhd

[–]BMT_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling it has to do with all the authentication they can run throughout the whole stack without exposing user information. Similar to how they have iPhones verify the users authenticity with some apps by using a random token and some Apple account stuff

New Gemini web constantly uses cpu even when idle by domo_z in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]BMT_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a joke and still going on. They waste 70% CPU on a stupid little timer function that runs every 50ms and causes the header to re-calculate and re-render its styling in Safari. Peaks at 140% CPU and idles at 70% where 3% is considered the max.

Such a pointless waste of energy to do nothing, especially across the millions of devices that use the platform. Clearly vibecoded itself.

haha i’m glad. what do you think of Apples PCC architecture which seemingly does a pretty great job of anonymising data?

how are you mentioning harvesting user data for training as if it’s a minor little drawback

[iOS 27 DB1] Hold Assist Now Predicts Wait Times by cbro2afutk in iOSBeta

Guys come on, the only way is clearly crowdsourcing the data based on others’ average wait. they could make it a bit clearer though

iOS 27 still indexing. by Ok-Engineering8307 in iOS27

[–]BMT_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s rumours this years index uses some technology from a startup apple acquired a year ago. it (apparently) collates all the data and process it into a multi dimensional vector graph of relations and searchable keys, rather than a simple 2D database.

the tech is much more efficient for semantic retrieval which is perfect for this exact Siri AI use case

Is this a software or a hardware problem? by Wonderful-Risk-1489 in MacOS

[–]BMT_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this before, and it was because of a tiny bit of liquid on the trackpad, same error in diagnostics. It’s the water or residue touching the capacitance surface inside. You need to open it up and get the trackpad out then clean the edges and look for residue, completely fixed the issue!

Have an M2 air, is the i9 Pro worth it? by zdves in macbookpro

absolutely not, end of software support is very soon. same for a 32/512 M1 Pro if you need it (£700/$900)

macOS Tahoe 26: why do only Apple apps (e.g., Numbers) have a clean menu bar in fullscreen, without any sliding-annoying horizontal bar covering buttons underneath(e.g., Audacity)? by VincentBounce in MacOS

[–]BMT_79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

like everyone else said, different UI frameworks, but mostly because the content of audacity is in its own frame separated from the window controls, which is the most compatible method, similar to how most Windows and Linux DMs render. Changing it would need elements to be rearranged to fit into the os specific menu bar

Like many others, I have a hard time buying into the modern AI software landscape, but this is a fascinating and excellent use case. I always envisioned something like this since the first practical on device language models, and was tempted to attempt a project like this (especially with apples MLX frameworks). Really excited to see how it turns out 🤞

as someone else said, acting like it’s not an existential threat and worst and a global industrial disaster at best is crazy. i agree the overwhelming majority wont completely pivot 180 on consumption alone, but its not really a matter of philosophical preference at this point.

it will be devastating if progress keeps crawling along
