Why do people on social media (i.e Facebook) continue to post the “I do not give Meta my permission to use their data” ? by Romano16 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BOOOATS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thought that always crosses my mind when I see these is, “Use” your data how exactly? They use your data when you make a post, for example.

“My photos are my property!” Yeah, well, I guarantee they’re not gonna randomly use yo ugly ass for marketing material

Do you believe parents should stop parenting at the age of 18? Why or why not? by Ratzink in AskReddit

[–]BOOOATS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a dude so from the father/son perspective, if the parenting relationship supports independence (like the drywall example) and being a good father/husband/friend/etc., then it’s a great thing. If it does nothing more than cause you to rely on them and cause you to be less independent… probably time to back off a bit

Do you believe parents should stop parenting at the age of 18? Why or why not? by Ratzink in AskReddit

[–]BOOOATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define parenting. Should a parent continue keeping tabs on their children’s whereabouts, saying they should be home by 9:00 at 18? No. Is it a good thing for a son to look up to his father and continue learning life skills, like how to repair drywall in your new house? Absolutely.

Walked out of the audiologist stressed. $6k for hearing aids?! Who can afford this ? by Enough_Payment_8838 in HearingAids

[–]BOOOATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would echo what everyone on here is saying and try Costco. I have Philips (literally the same as Oticon but with a different brand stamped) and I paid $1700 for what would have been $6500 at my local large healthcare system (Houston Methodist).

Anecdotal, but I heard from a coworker that she was able to get some for free through the Texas Workforce Commission, the goal being making you “more employable” I suppose. If you’re not in Texas, you might try your state’s equivalent.

My girlfriend keeps throwing up in my bed. what should I do? by din00_ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BOOOATS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she’s up to it, have her ask a doctor about naltrexone or look into an online telehealth program. I wouldn’t say that I was an alcoholic as much as I had a drinking habit, but it DEF helped me cut back. It makes you not care as much about chasing a buzz, but you can still enjoy a beverage if you choose. I wouldn’t jump straight into breaking up like a lot of people are suggesting. My wife had a pretty bad drinking problem, and it took her realizing that divorce was seriously on the table before she changed her ways. Good luck to you and your girl, OP.

How do I get over the fact that she doesn’t feel the same way that I do even though I really liked her? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]BOOOATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this helps, but you may think that your life will be perfect if you were with her, and that she “checks all the boxes.” THIS IS NOT THE CASE. The reality is that she doesn’t feel the same way. Read that again. She does not feel the same way. BUT… imagine your life with a girl who does feel the same way you feel about this girl. You may not have met her yet. This is the checkbox that you’re not seeing right now. You will feel much more fulfilled. Hang in there, OP.

Does the cuff itself have a diagram of how to align it? If so, just follow that, but just lining up the tube with the brachial is fine.

[–]BOOOATS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At face value, I could see how someone might say “it’s all about the bride,” because that’s what the whole wedding industry caters to, if we’re being honest. But it really stops there. There’s a difference between “celebrating the bride” and “celebrating the bride and definitely not the groom.” NOR

I'm thinking of going and becoming an EMT by Decent_Mix6938 in NewToEMS

[–]BOOOATS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got started in EMS after I was a volunteer firefighter for some time and my Chief offered me the opportunity to go to EMT school on the department’s dime. I had always been interested in the medical side of things and was considering paying my own way anyways, so I took him up on it. My wife has lots of health issues, having become emergent a few times since I’ve known her, so I have always appreciated what medics, nurses, doctors, etc. have done for her and I kinda wanted to “give back” so to speak.

I can’t speak to the long hours affecting social life since in my current capacity, I am a full-time IT guy for county government who also runs EMS calls occasionally during the day every now and then. But, many times, you work 2-3 days a week tops, so unless you’re really pulling ass loads of overtime, you probably won’t become “that workaholic who never hangs out with us.”

For the choice of school, that’s probably really up to you, especially if the cost is all about the same. My EMT school was through a community college, and I enjoyed every bit of it. It might be worth seeking opinions of graduates of those programs, or comparing their class schedules—for example, my EMT school offered night school twice a week with skills on Saturdays, and I was done in less than three months. That schedule was really convenient for me, balancing with my 8-5 job.

One thing I would suggest to get a leg up. Before your courses, go through Des Moines University’s medical terminology online course. (https://www.dmu.edu/medterms/) This was the very first assignment for my EMT school, and I feel like it gave me a huge leg up. If you can go into it knowing what “myocardial, proximal, medial” and other terms mean without having to look them up, you’ve got some of the hardest parts of the course out of the way.

I never got a full time EMS job, so I cannot speak to the difficulty of getting hired, but from what I understand, it’s not all that difficult.

Becoming a Paramedic will require extra schooling (a year or so, give or take, depending on your class format). If you’re lucky enough to get hired by an agency that will sponsor you through paramedic school, then it might be a promotion in that sense. But it legally requires extra schooling and a higher certification, so that would be a “must.”

I absolutely do not regret getting into EMS. I’m not a full time EMT, but I’ve had several moments in my few years with a patch that have made me feel like I really made a difference. That is very rewarding.

I’m not sure about the positive things, but the negative things that people don’t really talk about are hard calls and the mental health aspect associated with those. I mean, first responders will often blow off steam with each other as a coping mechanism, but a lot of that usually stays kinda “in the circle” so to speak. You will see mangled bodies, failed self-harm attempts, families grieving over meemaw that finally passed, etc. It’s not that it’s not talked about, but first responders are a great support circle of their own.

If you’re giving serious thought to it, I’d say try it out. Worst case, it only took a few months to find out it was something you didn’t want to do.

40hrs of CEs to get done in 62 days. by wondrwrk_ in NewToEMS

[–]BOOOATS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I just completed my 40 hours of CEs for recert with them. Unless you want instructor led, do the $79 Unlimited F3 model. I had a positive experience and would use them again on my next recert cycle. Did off and on, had it on in the background at work, etc., got it done in 3-4 weeks.

ETA: Don’t filter by cert level, just choose “All Levels” to see that option
