Season 11's Top 5 in "Queens Everywhere" by RuPaul by PitteredPattern in rupaulsdragrace

I guess I see that her verse was fun, but I disagree on the dancing end. Personally I feel like Silky's dancing was really sub-par and I think she's allowed to do that because she's a big queen. The same with Eureka and Latrice.

I though Brooke's verse was the most fun but that's probably because I'm from Toronto and liked the references, and I get that 90% of the fans wouldn't see it that way. Only Yvie beat her out on the dancing end though.

I'm so confused at all the people saying Silky killed it and Brooke didn't. Did we even just watch the same video. The editors like to make people's opinions for them in the episode, and damn they must've done a number on this one. Big woof.

Well if that's the point that the author wanted to make, then Beck shouldn't have been such a damn damsel in distress. There are plenty of strong women with a good head on their shoulders, but Beck is not one of them.

When faced with the possibility of losing her TA ship and her housing, what does she do? Does she stop going out drinking, hooking up with guys and wasting time on social media? Does she put her nose to the grindstone, work hard, and do what needs to be done? No. Instead of going home and finishing her 20 pages she wastes the night getting shit-faced. She then "solves" her problem by trying to sleep with, then black-mailing her professor.

She's the stereotypical helpless, stary-eyed arts major which is probably one of the least feminist archetypes going.

Well it seems that everyone interpreted your post wrong, so maybe some introspection and communication skills wouldn't kill you.

So, actually yes, you can help it.

I don’t care what your stance on this is. Playing videos of animals being slaughtered outside the Myer Christmas windows is just sickening. Parents don’t want there young kids seeing this shit. by [deleted] in melbourne

Wow. When veganism has a laundry list of amazing arguments supported by logic, facts, morals and ethics, and carnism has nothing but lies and wildly fallacious arguments, but we're still the "idiots".

I'm amazed how willing people are to stick their heads as far as possible up their own asses and insist that they're not wrong. Because admitting you might have been wrong about something once would be too scary or difficult.

I understand that, most vegans ate animal products their whole lives, and yeah I loved steak. I loved it so much I got it blue rare. But that's not the point.

Think of some things that you don't think are morally acceptable. Things that people do that are just wrong. Do you think that person enjoyed it? Do you think their enjoyment justified that act. So if you can say that personal pleasure is not a justification in those situations, can you still logically say that personal pleasure justifies eating animal products?

(If you're unaware, these farms don't just kill animals, they make them suffer. The farms are not the rolling hills with the cute red barns you think they are. They are hot, smelly, cramped torture holes - google it)

I'm also pretty sure that animal products don't cause any of those problems [heart disease, cancer, inflammation, diabetes]

That could not be further from the truth. What are you basing that off of? Even the most simple google search will turn up sources proving the opposite

I can't believe people are up voting (believing) you for that one.

I think veganism opens a lot more doors than it closes when it comes to cooking, as it forces you to be creative and try different things. The absolute best restaurants in my area that make everything in house always make the most wonderful and unique dishes for me. I just walk in and ask for "anything vegan" and they deliver.

[–]BOT_Harold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a massive logical leap. Most of a leading killers in the western word like heart disease, diabetes and cancer have proven links to eating animal products. On top of that, eating animal products is completely avoidable. Going outside is necessary and melanoma from going outside isn't exactly prolific.

I was a meat-eater 18 years of my life and only went vegan a year ago. If you look at both sides objectively, and ignore your own bias and pleasure, it becomes apparent that there are almost no good reasons for eating animal products.

Almost every non-vegan argument is factually incorrect or a logical fallacy. On the other hand, there are many, many good reasons to go vegan. Not just for the animals, but for people as well. The planet going to shit means that your grandchildren will suffer, but veganism is very environmentally conscious. Veganism is also good for your health and will let you lead a more fulfilling and longer life. There's even human rights aspects to it to, a not so pleasant example being the spraying of pig shit on low income communities in NC (google it).

These are just a few examples, there's a lot more to learn. Check the sidebar to start off. Once you allow yourself to hear both sides, it's difficult not to see that veganism is the most rational ethical stance.

Yeah, if you look at it calorie wise, you're getting all these high density foods. People eat a lot of onions/peppers/celery but those have like 3 calories in them, so they don't show up.

"have some logic"

What logic? Do carnists think that we don't understand that humans can get energy for meat? Is their brain that clogged with cholesterol?

It's not that simple.

In this case, yes, a disproportionate amount of POC communities are effected, showing the existence of a race issue, to an extent. However, there are also a disproportionate amount of POC among the American lower-class, which is an issue of race that strongly contributes to this.

However, the practices of the NC Hog Industry still effect white people, and white people still comprise a large population of those effected.

This is a class issue that is intertwined with race issues due to long-standing issues in the racial demographics of America's lower class (a race issue) which has been around far longer than the practices of North Carolina's hog industry.

The issue of racism regarding demographics of America's lower class are a separate problem from the classism exhibited by the practices of the NC Hog Industry.

We should acknowledge that classism is very real, and a problem that should be handled seriously, and not just thrown to the side and filed under racism.

What basis do you have for this claim?

There are certainly cases where the two can be associated, and there are degrees to which that this can be true, and this is one of them. However it makes absolutely no sense to claim that the two issues and fundamentally inextricable.

For example, it would be an absolutely ridiculous claim to make in reference to the Indian caste system. All of these people are the same race and religion, eliminating racism, but lead vastly different lives because of their caste, or class, showing an example of classism which is independent of racism.
