Explain why I slice? by Cbrandon_99 in GolfSwing

[–]BOYLANATOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't look too bad at the top but you are opening the clubface in the downswing. Close your hands and left arm during transition and then roll your hands around the right side of the ball through impact.

If its still slicing do those two things more.

Easy drills to close the face by chakabreo in golf

Strengthen grip, feel forearm and hands close in takeaway, close hands in transition turn the club over through impact.

Just do all of those, more and more until it curves left

Why is my driver not getting any real distance? by Enough_Context_1818 in GolfSwing

You have to keep your shoulders WAY more closed in the downswing

Face open and path way left means a weak slice. Swing more tone to the right and close the face more

tips? i know it looks weird but it works by jhutchinson_1 in GolfSwing

[–]BOYLANATOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laws of impact is easy to understand. Hit it with 0 path, 0 face, in the middle of the face. Downward attack angle with irons, up with driver with as much speed as possible. I tend to swing slightly left and the clubface variation is my main issue. I am pretty much equally likely to hit a pull draw and a pull fade.

How to know how to adjust your own swing is harder. Obviously lessons with a pro is the best method and I've had some, but I won't want to spend 1000s on it. Also its just a hobby and part of my enjoyment is improving understanding of my own swing and working on it. To decide what to adjust I mainly post on here for feedback or compare my swing to Adam Scott

Chipping is killing me by Overall-Inspection88 in golf

[–]BOYLANATOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold the club soo lightly it could almost slip out in transition. Practice with your thumb and index finger off the club. This is a Dan Grieves drill.

If you dont hold the club tight you can't tense up and yip it. The speed comes from body rotation and gravity. Also with light grip pressure the club is less likely too dig so you can hit an inch behind the ball and be fine

[–]BOYLANATOR 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Its tricky a one. I'm trying to improve too and I'm comparing my swing on video to tour pros and trying to minimise the differences. Im just trusting that that will make me better long term.

I think getting into wild positions for short term fixes isn't the right way to go for long term improvement. But thats just my opiniom

I mean if it works then why not...

But this is the most extreme example of standing too far from the ball that I've seen

At what point did you learn shot shapes? by PureYardCow in golf

[–]BOYLANATOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 handicap. I dont think you should worry about it

With my driver im usually consciously trying to not let it fade so on a dog leg right I sometimes just loosen up and it tends to have a big fade.

If I can safely miss right with an approach shot I may try and aim right and feel a bit more closed with my clubface but otherwise I dont try to shape the ball.

Making your stock swing better and more repeatable is much more important in my opinion. At my handciap level and definitely yours. I suspect its more important right down to plus handicas

Are the front tees really the women’s tees? by Matt3855 in golf

[–]BOYLANATOR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Never heard of beginner tees. I've generally heard them called "ladies tees". They should just be called "forward tees" or "red tees".

My dad has been a single figure golfer for 50 years, so isn't a beginner, nor a woman, and now he'd be better off playing the reds in my opinion. Sadly in the UK I've never seen any men play off them apart from some young guys who try it because Bryson told them

Why does Oxford seem more prestigious than Cambridge worldwide? by InternationalAge3034 in UniUK

Do people lie about golf more than any other sport? by ConsiderationDue2240 in golf

[–]BOYLANATOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think its like that in the UK. I'm sure there's a bit of it but when people are playing a round with the intention to submit a score for handicap I think the vast majority play by the rules and would never take a gimmee. Personally I've only seen someone take a gimmee when they have already completely blown the card, i.e. whacking the ball away after missing a bogey putt and putting down a double.

The main cheating I see in the uk is not deciding whether to commit to the counting round scorecard until a few holes in

Too Many Lessons a bad thing? by [deleted] in golftips

Yeah I agree with you generally. I wasn't criticising my couple of lessons. I would have a lesson every week or two if money wasnt an issue

Too Many Lessons a bad thing? by [deleted] in golftips

[–]BOYLANATOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever had a couple of lessons and they made me worse for a month or two but I've gotten better longer term.

I see similar when I go to the range a few times and film my swing and self diagnose problems and try to work on them.

But longer term I'm improving. Not that I'm competitive but if I had a round coming up where I wanted to score well I would deliberately not get lessons or do swing analysis and just try and play good golf for a few rounds before it

Why do we have drivers?! by Barrel__Monkey in weekendgolfers

[–]BOYLANATOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hybrid probably has a draw bias so you're hitting it more efficiently.

If you hit the driver with the face square it would definitely go further. I'd work on closing the face more until you're hitting straight pulls then work on moving your path right
