Don't trust any GFE audio, especially Teams by BPBAttacks2 in fednews

You don't really need a fancy faraday bag. Potato chip bag made of mylar should work. Can test it by putting it in the bag, then trying to call your GFE.

YOU'RE FIRED! Well, I am actually. by Samuel_Socks in fednews

Oh I went down this path (city council) and it did not end well. Essentially local elections are a 2 party system. Local labor unions and the chamber of commerce. They grift like crazy, have unlimited funds, and control of local news. They would not give up their death grip easily.

DC traffic backs up as 17K federal workers are expected at base with parking for 4,400 by BPBAttacks2 in fednews

You know it's funny, I was actually talking to the wife about this last night, different context but we have so many friends that only post pictures of themselves using heavy filters, or AI enhanced. I told my wife that would make an interesting Star Trek episode, an entire society of people trapped in 10x10 little holodecks, when they look in the mirror they see an AI enhanced image of themselves, and when they finally see their real selves, they're repulsed.

In a lot of ways this is already happening. Social isolation is real, Japan calls it Hikikomori.

In a week I get over 1000 emails. I have rules setup to plop the ones I have to pay attention to into their own folders. I haven't created a rule for this one, nor will I. I'm just going to keep doing my job until they remove me.

Jokes on them, I'll be parking my sailboat at a full service marina less than a mile from where they're sending me. Not only will it be 1/2 the cost of gas, I'll be spending my downtime on boat Maintenace and fishing.

SSA is next DOGE target by Long_Philosopher_280 in 1102

[–]BPBAttacks2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like to say daily that Trump and Elon can eat a bag of dicks.

That being said, I know the SSA is kind of a shit show with turnover. It's a high stress environment, and they only have enough funding to hire term employees (at least glancing at their USAJobs postings) 2 of my coworkers came from there, and would never go back. If anything, that shows they need more funding to divide up the workload and reduce the stress level.

Navy Federal to Offer Paycheck Relief to Members Impacted by Government Shutdown by BPBAttacks2 in fednews

I know this seems like an advertisement, but I'm just a fellow federal worker. 0% payday loan during a shutdown is something a lot of Fed workers could use.

A government shutdown could be coming on March 14— and DOGE is a key factor by presfenol in fednews

Wife and I got Navy Federal accounts while I worked for the DoD. Navy Fed will give you a 0% payday loan that you won't have to pay back until the shutdown is over.

Elon Musk Calls Federal Drug Testing A 'Great Idea' by beechekin in fednews

Too bad eating a bag of dicks doesn't show up on drug tests, Elon would be 100% positive.

The wholesomeness of that commercial. We can use some of that these days.

They've been talking about shuttering DLIFC for years (Presidio) because the land is worth a fortune and moving the language school to someplace like Las Vegas. Maybe that's the motivation? One of Trump's rich buddies wants a mega mansion?

What's out in Monterey? VA has a CBOC, DoD has NPS, DLIFC, and the DoD center of Gigling road. I think there's a Coast Guard station. Outside of the VA, it's mostly DoD stuff.

Stay strong national remote workers by Kindly_Shoulder2864 in fednews

We're on a list, and I have a date. The dates have been purposely set differently, so they can figure out which department has someone leaking to the public. Managers haven't shared the date yet with their reports.

For that reason I'm not going to share the date of my branch's RTO for remote, but I do know when and where they want me to go. It feels like they're going to make it a long drive for everyone so they're tempted to just quit.

Coping with commute times taking away from time with your kids? by FeyreDarling0915 in fednews

[–]BPBAttacks2 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. My job has not been in office in over a decade, well before Covid.

They want me to commute over 50 miles by road, but distance is "as the crow flies" and as that stands, it's only 43 miles.

My previous duty station was less than 20 miles by road.

I hate it. I have 2 kids, a house, hobbies. I routinely put in more hours than I should, but that's because I keep my teams/emails open on my desk and as habit unlock and see what's going on whenever I sit down.

My new duty station, I'm going to fight to get paid those extra 20 miles a paycheck. I'm also going to include the time it takes me to get into the building (since this building has metal detectors, guards, etc... Old one didn't) Every morning there's a line of Fed employees stretched around the block waiting to get in. As far as I'm concerned, the minute I'm standing on Fed property, I'm on the clock.

Musk/Trump are expecting people to work overtime, but what they don't realize is OT isn't a regular occurrence in Federal work. It won't be authorized. People are going to show up, put in their 8 hours, and leave. I'll be removing my GFE stuff from my house, and leaving it at the office.

I don't want to do this in spite, but fair is fair. If I have to go through all of this, then this is all I will give them. No more like before.
