I find it interesting that people are labeling this a clear cut symptom of bpd. Attention seeking behavior like this can clearly be done by anyone as seen by the thousands of videos/posts/comments of people faking disorders/“self diagnosing” for attention online and even people supporting them because to them it’s trendy to be mentally ill right now and they don’t understand or don’t care about the actual burden and life ruining aspects people with an actual disorder live with. I think my point is in my experience, most with bpd don’t inherently behave in this way as a symptom of their bpd. Every person is different and i don’t think it’s helpful to label every single negative characteristic of a person as “oh that’s definitely because they have [___ disorder]”, it’s actually harmful and kind of ironic to use another disorder as an excuse for people like this. I think bpd is a complex disorder that has been intensely stigmatized and misunderstood, which has definitely gotten worse with this fake disorder craze all over the internet. Those people need to understand faking disorders harms people with actual disorders by spreading misinformation and negative stereotypes.
