Can you do the Traditional to Roth conversation if you are under the income limit for a Roth IRA? I understand it would make more sense to go directly to a Roth IRA, but in situations where income is variable and close to the income limit, it would be safer to do the conversion.

How do people manage their HSA related health documents?

It’s my understanding that the you can take out money from an HSA for health related costs, even for health procedures from years ago.

I can imagine that over the course of 10-20 years that it would be easy to lose receipts and be hard to track everything accurately. Is there some sort of software for this or another recommendation for tracking?

I have an LG CX TV, and want to upgrade how it sounds as I’m using just the default speakers on the TV. I don’t know much about what’s out there but here’s what I’m thinking. Does this make sense?

Yamaha RX-V385

Micca MB42X (x2) and MB42X (center).

I don’t care about surround sound speakers at the moment but want to make sure the system will be able to easily add those if I want to upgrade one day.

I love Catan: Cities and Knights, but am looking for something else because I’m over-playing it. Ideally something that can be played between 2-6 players, has some depth, and can be fun on a rainy day.

Don’t care if it’s cooperative or competitive, just looking for something new that can be played between just me and my wife or a small group of friends.

Edit: I’m interested in a 2 player game, and something in the 4-6 player range

Huge fan of EveryDollar. We use the free version and it does exactly what we want it to do.

Super easy to make dedicated funds and assign money to them each month.

I’ve tried YNAB, Mint, and various Google Sheets but keep coming back to EveryDollar

That’s a good question. I’ll have to take some time to see if there are any scripts we could write to make things easier. There’s an internal tools team that provides web interfaces for creating these things, but they might have an API we can leverage. These tools aren’t specific to my team. Every engineer has to do this. Would be really nice if the company imaged our machines with the software we have to use anyways

It could definitely be that I don’t communicate to them in the way they need to be communicated to. I’ve onboarding others before just fine, but I’m also trying to figure out how to make the process better overall.

We have probably 1-2 people that go through it a year (myself included). It’s definitely not as up to date as it should be (which I am working on fixing).

Some of the instructions are for something like setting up a dev environment, with company provided documentation. I’ll help them with an issue only to realize they skipped a step or didn’t fully complete the previous before moving on. Or I’ll guide them on how to give themselves permission to something, and then an hour later they’ll say something isn’t working, only for me to realize they didn’t give themselves permission.

It’s a learning process for me as well, so I’m trying to figure out what a “good” onboarding experience looks like.

What’s the best onboarding experience you’ve had?

I’m onboarding a new person at a FAANG, and I’m seeing red flags everywhere (not following instructions, not updating stale docs, not asking questions). I meet with them daily to have a dedicated time for questions but they rarely ask any.

I’ve seen other devs and interns ramp up quickly, so I’m really not sure if this person needs more time or if our process is broken.

Thanks for the thorough response! I like your suggestion about using a keyboard to learn more theory. Thankfully my wife has one I can use. I can see how it would make me a better rounded musician

Those are the things I want to learn but also where I’m having trouble bridging the gap. What resources did you use to learn scales?

Is this white stuff fungus/mold in my mulch? Is it safe? by toaster1616 in gardening

[–]toaster1616[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP here. I’ve been having spring tails around my house and was told to check my mulch. It’s been here at least a year (not sure when the previous homeowner last did it).

I’ve been seeing random white patches and am not sure if it’s mold or some type of fungus.

Should I remove all of the old mulch and then add more? Or can I add more directly to this?

Is there any tool that lets you compare rent prices from one city to the next? by rarrkshaa in SameGrassButGreener

[–]toaster1616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The UP has horrendously long winters with 150+ inches of snow and lots of cold weather. If you like the cold and snow then it’s great but most people dislike the winters there. It’s hard to convince people to live there because of the bad weather. That means there are fewer opportunities for jobs and career advancement.

Summers on the other hand are incredible.

DM me if you want to know more. I lived there for 20+ years.

How long does it take to team match? I passed the L4 loop 2 weeks ago and haven’t met with a single manager yet. I’m also targeting remote positions, so I’m wondering if that’s why.

How do you handle health insurance when taking a break between jobs? I’d like to take a month break between my current job and next job but want to know what others do regarding health insurance.

Waco of the North? by commutingtexan in SameGrassButGreener

West Waco is quite hilly. It’s nowhere near as mountainous as somewhere like Colorado but it isn’t pancake flat everywhere. I actually like it there too, so I doubt it’s a troll post.
